AM1 based Cigar Box PC

mq1991

Hello All!

With AMD's launch of the new AM1 platform, I figured id build a project I had been wanting to do for a while now. The price was right, and everything should fit!

I dont have everything yet, the Pico PSU and hard drive are still on their way.

(Note: Yes I know there is an asrock board with a built in 19v power jack, it is just more expensive then the combo deal with the Elite 130 case)

I decided that until the PSU and SSD came in, I would just build it into the case to play around with the APU and verify that everything worked.

Sorry about the picture quality, ill be getting a better camera soon!

Also, if anyone wants to see benchmarks or gaming performance on the 3850 let me know!

Thanks for looking!

Give us some benchmarks :)
This is a smart use of low power small form factor components.

You will probably end up cutting holes on the box for airflow.

Haha the combo deal came with the elite 130 for $99, so im just going to sell the sempron to my brother and grab the 5350 with an MSI board for $80. So we both win!

Also EDIT: Not my main PC, this is...

and I have this mousepad!

Some older paid for/freeware/abandonware DX9 Gaming titles would be a good indicator of performance for retro builds/classic gaming. If possible.

No SSD? <- Not making it be as fluid and responsive as any other CPU in general usage....

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Will do, the 3850 can play minecraft at 30fps on fancy graphics, with an 8 block draw distance. Runs surprisingly smooth! Much better than my girlfriends i3/HD3000 graphics

Yup! Its on its way!

Wait, wat? are we talkin about the iGPU O.o?

(Then it performs like mah 8500 GT xD)

That was the closest resolution I could get. haha.

Yeah it definitely isnt anything revolutionary, but for its size its pretty sweet! The 5350 is on its way, ill post comparisons between the two so you can see the performance gain going for the more expensive processor.

Very nice.  I quite like the old steampunkish builds. Keep up the good work mate!!!!

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.

Nice I/O shield solution :P

PS: what settings on MC?

haha thanks! That took the longest out of anything. Lots of cutting and grinding!

I had it set to fancy graphics, minimal smooth lighting, and particles decreased. with a 12 block render distance :)

If I don't sell it, I will probably put my 5350 in it and hopefully use it for the steam in home streaming stuff!
