Alienware laptop?

Hey guys! :)

I´ve been wanting to get a alienware laptop with dual nvidia 780m graphics, do you know any?

I am going to be doing a lot of gaming on it, im almost always going to have the power cord in so battery life is not that important.

My budget is as low as possible with dual 780m and preffered screen size is either 17 or 18 inch.   ;)

I suggest, and you don't have to agree, to get an actual desktop and a laptop with the money you're going to spend on a gaming laptop.

Because i want to be able to quickly go to a friends house with the laptop, instead of having to carry a heavy comuuter and lots of cords.

Could always go for an mATX build or ITX build and get a case with handles or something. Would be a lot cheaper than getting a laptop with the similar performance. Or another solution is to get your friend to come to your house :P

You should do a mini itx pc build with a dual gpu card

well i had the same idea when i bought mine, i wanted to take it with me and play in the university, but the problem is the performance that u get is not comparable to the desktops.

let me put u in perspective, the last 3 generations of top tier of laptop gpus are 680m,780m and 880m all of which cost around $600-750 and they have a preformance of a desktop card between GTX 670-680, their price is $200-400 and will keep dropping unlike the laptop gpus. and here is something no one will tell u about laptops, the gpu and ram will run on pci 8x instead of 16x in desktops which is ofc slower.

my point is gaming laptops are good but only for maybe 0.01% of gamers who really really really need them.

" note i will delete this soon since i am planing to sell my laptop, and dont want any possible buyers to read this :D"

He wants a Laptop so be helpful, he's fully aware that desktop are far cheaper and will perform far better but he still wants a laptop. It's always good to have someone to argue for an alternative but this isn't remotely helpful so please stop this kind of child like behaviour.

no one is behaving like a child, being a child would be like "WHY ARE YOU GETTING ALIENWARE THEY ARE SHIT AND OVERPRICED" we are just giving him suggestions on something besides a laptop because he said that he didn't need one, just wants one. No one is being hostile towards him or his choice.

It looks like a good laptop altho I don't have good experiences with Alienware,

Imho gaming on a laptop sucks.

But if you want a gaming Laptop go for it or have a look at the newest Asus rog lineup.

if he stated that he only wants a laptop and don't want any advice/argument about the subject, i bet u none of us would say anything, unlike u we understand that not every argument is childish.

I was assuming he wanted advice. If he was just asking for an alienware laptop with dual 780m graphics and he didn't want advice, it would've been a lot easier to just look at their site then talk about it here.

EDIT: I thought google was a more popular site for the specific question he asked?

Ok let's talk about why you shouldn't get a laptop, they over heat without GPU's and once you put two in there under load, the amount of heat you will see will be terrifying. Laptops never stay cool you just can't cool them in that much spaces since you are gaming and that's all you are doing, save money with an itx build and it will be nice a cool.

Btw you only need to bring the computer and the 1 psu cable to connect to the wall idk what tons of cables you are referring to. It's all contained in your case.

if u still want to get laptop u have 3 options as in for bulky gaming laptops, alienware, clevo, asus, alienware is about $400 more than the other 2, but in terms of build quality alienware is the best.

alienware have 3 types for laptops, 14, 17 ,18 " its the name and the screen size", 18 is the only 1 that have dual gpus,

"note: they dont have 780m gpus on their main website but maybe u can get 1 from online store."

just FYI, I have an Alienware M18x R2, (i7 3610qm, dual 7970m in crossfire) and it is a beast. I bought it over 2 years ago and it still maxes out everything on high/ultra at 1080p

Yes it was expensive and sure my desktop outperforms it and cost less money but I love that I can pop to a LAN or to a friends house or work or anywhere and game.

(also it is beautiful and built like a TANK)

well you dont need duak gtx780ms in an ugly ass huge laptop that weighs as much as a mitx build which is going to outperform it easily. Also, you technicly nly need one cord and thats the power cord, youll need that with a laptop aswell thou

Are you looking at other gaming laptop vendors as well or do you definitely want an Alienware?  I'm currently using an Asus G55VW and I'm really happy with it.  I would also take a look at Asus' gaming laptops and see if there's any that you like (don't get the same one I have though, there are newer models available).  I can say from having used Asus' and Alienware's gaming laptops extensively that Asus' tend to have better cooling (those massive fans on the back really work).

EDIT: Also, just so you know, a lot of gaming laptop vendors (including Alienware) are using the 880m now rather than the 780m.  The Alienware 17 can have up to an 880m and the Alienware 18 can have up to two 880ms running in SLI.

I've owned an alienware laptop, my friends dad has owned an alienware laptop,  We both agree that they weren't worth the money spent on them.  I suggest you look at another brand for an alternative you will like pay less and get a better laptop.
