Then I'm sure you just answered your own question ;)

Yes, it's still a decent phone. However with newer Android updates you will start to see it fall behind

It's okay when you install Cyanogenmod on it. With Touchwiz it's a bit slow.

After using s1 for 2 years now, 1 year with stock 1 with cyanogenmod i can say i'm used to slow phones. But CM made it better, stock was awful. probably would do the same with S3.

maybe try a nexus 5 or a moto g/x? there a bit newer phones should be pretty cheap too.

Yes but only if you can get it cheap.

I'm using this with Cyanogenmod as my daily driver for 2 years still a fast phone even for mobile gaming.

I don't think so. The newer versions of Android actually drastically reduced it's resource requirements.

As @JAKEBAB said, I'd go for a Moto G, or even a Nexus 5 depending on what your budget is.

There's also the OnePlus One, which should be an absolute beast and the same price as the Nexus 5.

yeah its still good, there isnt much out there thats faster, sure in synthetic benchmarks some phones will cheap and give higher scores but yuo wont be able to tell if anythings faster and sure modern phones will come with a ton of features you'll never use.

ive got my s3 set to 400mhz minimum-800mhz maximum, my arguement is that single threaded apps (90% of them) are usually done within half a second anyway, and multi threaded apps will run plenty fast enough it being a quad core anyway.

and while most people still get a day or 2 out of thier phones i routinely get 4-5 days of use out of my s3.

currently running xperian rom, still better than an ibone

It's still decent.  My brother is currently using an S3 and he doesn't feel the need to upgrade to an S4 or even the upcoming S5.  I can't speak from personal experience since I've only used the phone for around an hour total, but he's happy with it.

It's pretty slow with the original ROM it comes with. Especially if you load the phone with too much stuff it slows down to a crawl. I recommend LG, they usually have good phones for cheaper.
