Need help on a buying a new graphic card

MmxZero

Hi guys. First of all, I'm new and I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong section.

I'm currently facing a dilemma on buying a new graphic cards. My current setup are as follow

CPU - intel i5 2500k - stock

RAM - Corsair vengence - 16gb of ram

Mobo - Asus z68 pro

PSU - Silverstone 850w gold

GPU - 2x Asus 6870 1gb of ram direct cu 2

(Sorry for the short form above)

Problem (Well I was naive back then when I thought I can save money and just go on pure power with 2 cards. Well I got a good deal back then)

1. No more multi GPU setups for me

2. Driver issue - well happens on multi GPU setups

3. Stuttering

4. Image flickering

Options (Getting all the non-reference version as my country does not sell reference design card (well they have but it's hard to get one))

1. Nvidia - 770, 780 and 780 ti

2. AMD - R9280x, 290 and 290x

Prices comparison in my country (where > is more expensive than x)

780ti > 780 = r290x > r290 = 770 > r280x

Moving forward

1. Planning to play on 1080p display @ 60 fps

2. High resolution will be the minimum requirement

3. Planning to change every 3 years

4. Not planning to overclock the GPU

5. Noise, Power consumption and Heat not an issue for me ( As I'm living in a tropical country and government is charging a lot already on my electricity bill so doesn't make any difference and I game using a closed headphones while gaming).

6. Well just as long to play any games on PC on high resolution.

7. And no i'm not planning to mine bitcoin

And what is the requirement vram (to be on a safeside in the future) to game on 1080p monitor.

Sorry for the long post and thank you. And sorry for my bad English.

780 all the way. Unless you have any reason to wait for Nvidia's 800 series cards to release. If the 780 is too expensive, grab a 770.

stole the word out ma mouf ;)

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only a GTX 1080, just a single 1080, where my glorious PC once stood....

For that is all I need, For the Emperor of Man, Jen-Hsun Huang, protects. We march for Nvidia, and we shall know no fear!

780

stole the word out ma mouf ;)

Well I'm guessing  I should get the 780 or should I wait for the 880?

i think u got a pretty solid build for now...i would recommend that u wait for 4-5 months and then grab a maxwell 800 series nvidia gpu...ur wait will not go waste i m telling u... :)

Well reason why I'm buying because for now I still can scrap some value off from my old GPU (actually recover 50% of my initial cost). And recently the games are giving me a lot of problems.

780 or 780ti unless you can get a really good deal on a r9 290x

So far the similar prices for a 780 is a asus 780 against the sapphire r9 290x. From what I read online, its better for me to get a r290 than a r9 290x as the performance gap is little and the price point is huge?

780 ti its like and additional USD250 (plus minus) of a 780 price. Just wondering whether the performance justify the price I'm paying the long run.

Thanks guys.

The GTX780 is in the price range of the R9 290X, sounds like you're Singapore, if that is the case, the R9 290X is the obvious choice, it is faster than the GTX780. Just be sure it comes with 3rd party cooling.

I'm going to play only at 1080p monitor which I'm not planning to go any higher than that.

If I'm a Singaporean, I won't be feeling the pinch on the pricing to buy all this. LOL. Well I'm from Malaysia.

Well if I'm getting a r9 290x, it will be this model

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1227&pid=2090&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

But I would like to confirm whether r9 280x is giving any problems? Because I read somewhere there something wrong with the design on the r9 290x card? I can't remember reading it where.

Sorry guys for me being picky. Just want to make sure making the right purchase.

.

if u are getting a good deal on ur 6870s for now then sell them and get the 780 or 780ti...i would say 780ti for 1080p as u r saying u will be playing a 1080p and if u plan for higher resolution or 2-3 monitor setup in the future then get a titan black... :)

Seems like everyone has blinders on when it involves the GTX780, NOT everyone is from the States. IF the Sapphire Tri-X R9 290X can be had for about the price of a GTX780, the R9 290X would be the better choice as it is faster and has more VRAM should the TS decide to go surround gaming or 4K.

yeah you can overclock a non x to a x or higer, no a ti version is not worth it. if you tend to play games on 1 1080p screen then somthing like a 780 will be better but if you plan to play on a surround or 4k then a r9 290x will be great

Well I ordered the 780 ti and manage to get a good deal out of it. Well just planning to use it in the long run. Thanks guys.
