Am I going crazy or does ASUS really suck?

Osmium

Excuse the brand hate but I am thoroughly pissed off so please just let me rant for a bit. How exactly is it that I have ordered 3(technically 4) ASUS monitors and have all 3(technically 4) of them defective? The first one I returned and when the sent me the second I thought it was it worth the effort to return. Next I got my 144hz monitor which I also returned since it had a dead pixel in a really annoying spot. Now finally my third(technically fourth) ASUS display is sitting on my desk with another stuck pixel. I asked last time "How is my luck this bad?" but now I am starting to think it is not me being unlucky it is they are just not good at making reliable screens.

Anyway rant over but if I can get a refund what should I buy now? I bought the V248QE because it was somewhat inexpensive and had the full 144hz but I do not think any other monitor in the $280 price range has the full 144hz. If there is no other monitor I might just buy the samsung one in the LTT store. Also please nobody suggest an IPS or something. I am really just not in the mood.

You've been a victim of some bad luck. I understand why you feel that way though, despite myself having no problems with any Asus product.

Bad luck. Sorry.

If this is bad luck (which I hope you all can understand is hard to accept from my position) should I not order this from newegg? Could it be they are the ones to blame with shipping or what? 3 times in a row for just about anything is pretty unlikely so I am trying to think of a possible explanation. Shipping readily comes to mind.

Have you pissed off an old gypsy lady recently?

Well I might possibly be out $300 so yeah. Except minus the gypsy and the lady thing.

I think it's just bad luck. I've never had any issues with ASUS products. It might just be Newegg's stock on the monitors, but I can't be exactly sure.

I have owned lots of PC related products and the only defective ones I have ever owned were Asus made. I normally would be like enough is enough with any other brand no matter what kind of product it was but with Asus I cant bring myself to ditch em.

Just a thought but would you consider a factory refurbished monitor? maybe a benq. Actually any refurbished monitor with a good warranty or return policy may be worth a shot.

When I was first ordering for my gaming PC, the first Asus monitor I ordered had a dead pixel and I RMA'd it. Newegg should accept it if I can send it back over a single dead pixel.

Chances are good that whoever shipped your package(s) just threw it into a truck without any regard for it. That's why I always label my packages "Urine Samples."

Yeah I have RMA'd 3 monitors for dead pixels so that is nothing new. However right now I am returning the monitor they sent me to replace the other defective one so it probably looks bad. Alternatively the warrenty might be up which is equally bad.

Tremendously bad luck happens. It has happened to other people. But you are the vast minority. It could also be shipping.

Yeah I am probably going to sleep it off for tonight and then make a decision tomorrow. The rational part of me knows you are right but the irritated 15 year old just wants to be irritated. Considering my options which are try to get another, get a refund and buy the same one from someone else, or get a refund and donate it to charity; none of them sound particularly great.

RMA.

Besides I think asus uses LG panels anyways, which just about everyone (aside from samsung) uses.

Well there's also sharp and a few others.

wait, are you paying to RMA?

I haven't really liked Asus either, but many others seem to so w/e

ASUS is my absolute favorite brand when it comes to computers. With that being said one the only LCD monitors I've ever had a problem with in my life was an ASUS monitor, which also happened to be dead pixels. Go figure.

Yeah I am gonna run one of those pixel untickers all night tonight to see if it will be better in the morning. I don't have a ton of faith but I am willing to be pleasantly surprised.

Just out of curiosity, were all these monitors same model?

Sorry to hear that! I haven't bougt any asus monitors lately, but my 6 year old 22" is still going strong.

My current monitor 27" 120Hz Samsung had a stuck red pixel right bang in the middle of the screen when I got it, and that was a top-tier $700+ monitor, which you'd think they could afford to do proper QC on. Luckily it disappeared after a few hours of use and never came back.

But that many in a row, that's cant be a coinsidence...

Yeah. The first one was a VS248 which had an annoying red pixel in the middle of the screen which was unacceptable to me. The second time was the monitor they shipped back to me but the pixel was dead not stuck and in an obscure area of the screen so I decided I could live with it. Next I got a VG248QE which is their $300 144hz monitor which had a dead pixel only a few days into using it. And now finally the one I have has a stuck blue pixel in the middle of the screen.

I think I have decided to go for the Samsung in the LTT store if I am able to get a refund for this monitor. It is not the full 144hz but overall it is probably a better monitor than this one anyway. Maybe Linus has better luck with monitors than I do anyway so it might work out.

Also: NOBODY BUY THAT MONITOR OR I WILL HATE YOU FOREVER!(okay maybe not hate or forever but I will strongly... not think you are a nice person... for a little while)

Wow, I was sorta hoping it could be a bad batch of monitors or something if they were all the same model, but in that case you're probably right, cut your losses and move and on...

Really the S27A950 monitor? :D I can strongly recommend it that's the one I mentioned above (bought it when it launced so the price was a bit higher back then (: ) The input lag is extremely low, I have no plans on upgrading any time soon (with the gsync hype an all that) since tearing has never bothered me on this monitor. I actually contacted LMG about buying that same monitor, but unfortunaltely the shipping would be too high to Finland. Would like another one, but seems not too many were sold over here...

I was looking at it when I was buying my VG248QE but I settled on the ASUS since the higher refresh. After playing for a bit on 120hz last night and this morning I have concluded I can't reliably tell the difference and I have read that Samsung is amazing so I might as well buy it. Basically half price is a pretty good dead anyway.

Sounds like a plan, I've unfortunately not got the chance to properly test a 144Hz monitor so I can't give any input on that, but I find it highly unlikely that anyone would find that monitor inadequate. If you decide to buy it I'd love to hear what you think about it compared to the other ones you've (unvolontarily) "tried" lately.

I only know one other person that has one of these (S27A950), a buddy of mine that, after trying his made me blow a LOT more money on a monitor than I had  ever tought I would. It's quite a while ago tho, so it woud be instersting to hear how it stacks up against the competetion today in your opinion.
