Na, crossfire will always give you hassle, you're better off getting a single more powerful card.

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

This isn't a true statement at all. Depending on the deal, he could be getting miles ahead of what he would have gotten normally for the money. Crossfire/SLI aren't as bad as most people believe.

What version of the cards was it? The best you could have gotten for that price is a 760, which is not as good.

I've never personally used crossfire 6970s so I cannot say for sure, but your PSU likely won't be able to handle the draw from a full load. It might be able to, but you'll likely be going over the power limit for your PSU. So eventually, if not immediately, you're gonna have to get a new PSU to match the system draw. So add that price ontop of everything.

EDIT: Unless your profile is out of date.

Double edit: you have a 7970, nvm. You're just asking if it's good, haha. IGNORE THIS

Ahh. In that case... I know I've heard people make comparisons between a 6990/590 and a 770/280X. From what I've seen through benchmarks the 680 was roughly only a few percentage under performing from the 590. And the 770 is a much faster 680, so likely on par with eachother, if not the 770 potentially taking the lead. And with the 280X being comparable to the 770, that's another great choice. Plus the 280X runs 3GB of ram.

50 bucks more, if you're wanting. Plus much less power/heat/potential problems with dual GPU. At least from a quick search on Newegg.

280X

770

Just more info. Hope it helps you make a decision.

I heard the XFX 280X has Vram Issues.

They get hot way to quick.

I Wanted a 590 but I'm not sure its going to work with my motherboard.

Ahh. I know their 7970s had a huge problem with that. Too much work to look for the revision number and reference which ones were poorly binned. There are still plenty of other deals you may find on various other websites as well and with other GPU manufacturers.

But, the 590 part, I have no idea. From what I can see I imagine it would work fine. I don't know what the 590s TDP is though.

Crossfire 6970s is a very, very strong combo

Check out radeon pro, the super tile crossfire method is supposedly butter smooth.

Again, this is the 6K series, they don't get hot, dont draw much power (only a little more than the equivalent CGN cards, the 7850/7870)

So if you can pick up a pair of 6970s for ~$200, I'd go for it.

Here's one deal for a MSI 7970.

I guess the only draw back is that the 6000 series wont be supported for Direct X 12.

Also soon as I mention Crossfire on this form people blow that idea up...

But you seem to think it would be a good idea?

I've been heavily researching & considering it, I plan to go eyefinity & I'll need more power, and a second 6770 for $80 seems to be an amazing deal.

when using the Supertile(radeon pro) CF engine, frame pacing is butter smooth, and no need for FPS limiters. (thanks to SOE forums for explaining that)

as for DX12, that does have me interested.

Only reason I brought up Direct X was because when I bought Titanfall and I had an older card in my system the game wouldn't work because it wasn't Direct X 11.

So i'm just concerned in the future more games are going to be like that and then again you would have to upgrade your gpu's.
