Wow this rig has been sitting around for a while now with the stock cooler still on there. I got this Raijintek Pallas 140MM with my 3770K, but it didn't come with the amd mounts. I got them on monday this week so i fitted it tonight which i have to say wasn't fun, not because of the mounting system, but because of the amazing amount of space in the case.

The before shot

The Heatsink:

The previous owner of this cooler was using it to cool an overclocked 3770K. i was quite surprised that this cooler could keep it cooler being so thin and having a LP fan. anyway the pics of the heatsink and fan:

The lightning of the work space:

It consist of a tool kit open with my flexible light clamped to it and a GTX480 as a counter weight to hold it in place :P

P1010033.JPG

The Installation and fitting:

To fit this cooler i had to take the board out of the case as there is no cpu cut out on my case, as it would just be a hole in the bottom of the case. Its pretty easy to fit with fins cut out of the heatsink so you can tighten it down, You can mount the cooler to cover either the VRM or your ram, so if you have tall heatsinks and ram then you can turn it to where it fits. other thing to consider are things like fan headers, cpu power and 24 pin as this cooler can cover them. On my board i have placed the cooler so that it is blowing air over the vrm, because the heatsink is small and i'm running a fairly high voltage for a low end vrm. In this orientation, the heat covers 3 fan headers, including the cpu header, as well as the 4 pin cpu power cable. this made plugging these cables in quite tricky, but i have managed to squeeze them all in :)

I think i managed to keep the cables fairly tidy on the side where i need airflow, underneath the optical drive, HDD and SSD is a different story, but you cant see that, so i don't care  :D.

The results:

This cooler is amazing, it has exceeded my expectations a lot. With the Previous oc that i have been running (4.3ghz on 1.45v) the stock cooler temps were up to 58c with case fans on and the cpu fan over 80%. with this cooler at the same speed and voltage i couldn't get it to exceed 40c with the case fans off and the cpu fan at 750RPM. I have now overclocked it to 4.515ghz on 1.5V and with both the cpu and gpu parts of the APU maxed out it reached 48c with no case fans on and the cpu fan at 850RPM. I wa running open case, but this pc was also sitting next to my main rig which was folding. i think with the case closed and the case fans at 800RPM i should be able to run this system flat out 24/7 without it ever getting above 50c. this is great and now makes me wonder what happens when i put a quad core in it........................ anyway here is the footage of the PC running. That's ballin'. Also i take it the rig with the 480 being a counterbalance for the light is the main one?

That was a very nice Lian Li case a page or two back. Thought that was a new case for the i5 and 970s

thanks, yes the light holder is on top of my main rig. i have a thread for that somewhere as well, but i tend to loose threads. it took me a good half hour to find this one.

The very nice case was because this PC lives in the living room and my mum and dad said it needed to look nice. I then said that if they want a nice looking case then they would have to buy it themselves, because i was going to put all this in a nice compaq MATX case and hide i behind the sofa. This case happened to be the correct size to fit under the tv stand and the parts i was putting in it. The 970 dont fit in unfortunatly. i tried they are about an inch long than the whole case :P. the gigabyte GTX970 ITX thing would fit though......

Being in the living room it must look amazing under a TV. Shame the 970s didn't fit.

it looks stealth. I think its just a shame that the amp for the surround sound isn't black to match it. :(
