Codecademy. What Do You Guys Think?

cameron532

Hey guys,

I found this website (http://www.codecademy.com) which can teach you different languages for the web. What do you guys think? Do you think it is a good place to learn code?

It's a good way to begin learning code BUT:

I don't like it, you have to do exactly what they tell you to do plus it's very limited.

I completed the Python track and I would recommend the website. A few of the exercises are broken (both in the instructions they give you and what registers as a "correct" response), but overall it is a useful tool.

Yeah I noticed that. Sometimes they are like "do this" and you are like..."but I don't even know what that means"

Whenever I have tried to learn programming It seems like the person writing the course assumes you have prior knowledge, it explains what a function is mathematically but I would love the layman version. if I understand the concept then I will greater understand the code fundementally

I have yet to find anything like this, just talking through the functions and codes in plain English before you start the exercise. I often consult my experience friend and discuss the concept to make sure I understand its role

Saying that for a free resource it is quite good. A good place to start

I agree with what the others are saying about the python section. I did the API section too, though, and found it really helpful. My only complaint is that when I want to go back and use some of the lessons as examples, it's a little cumbersome to navigate to specific tutorials. Other than that its a good resource.
