Build-Off Week 39: Xigmatek + Gigabyte + Crucial [Brand-Themed-Build]

Go to solution Solved by ilikemacandpc,

CPU:  AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($151.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler:  Xigmatek Dark Knight II SD1283 89.5 CFM CPU Cooler  ($49.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard:  Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($89.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Storage:  Crucial M500 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  ($73.47 @ OutletPC)
Video Card:  Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card  ($319.99 @ Newegg)
Case:  Xigmatek MIDGARD II (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($72.47 @ Amazon)

Total: $995.35
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)
(Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-04-06 12:14 EDT-0400)

Justification:

The theme for this build is a blackout with some white led fans.

Storage: A Crucial M500 and a Hitachi 1TB hard drive offer actually adequate storage for a gaming PC. A 120GB SSD alone does not suffice.
Memory and PSU: The Crucial Elite RAM fits with the blackout color scheme and will just barely stay away from the Dark Knight II. The Rosewill HIVE power supply has all black cables to complement the other components as well.
Case and Cooling: The Xigmatek Midgard II fits perfectly with the color scheme, and the white LEDs on the high performance Dark Knight II and the other 120mm fans will light up this build nicely.
CPU and GPU: An FX 8320 offers all of the performance of a higher end FX sku, and with the DKII, it can overclock really well. A Gigabyte GTX 770 makes the build have a lot of graphics might, considering it is just a really high clocked GTX 680.

Total of Xigmatek, Gigabyte, and Crucial Components: 9

tried to stick to the Green PC look with the G1 Sniper board but Crucial don't really have green parts so used yellow

mantle and DX12 ready R9 270X OC GPU from Gigabyte using the Wind Force tri-fan design

The NZXT fan controller controls all the case fan and the 2 x 140mm are the top exhaust fan the 120mm is the intake fan to support the pre installed front intake.

total parts from brand requirement = 10

Cpu to oc to around 4.0 - 4.2Ghz with that mobo and cpu cooler (similar perf to hyper 212)

Gpu with 1gb more vram and bigger bandwidth. Good overclocker.

Great case and silent fans. Put red fan on back as exhaust and put pre installed fan in front of case as intake (static pressure). Or put it on top behind the side panel as intake, so its red glow  effect like on picture.

SSD for fast load time OS and handful of games you play most

Hard Drive for mass storage. Games, backup, etc..

Seasonic-made PSU

Heatsinked memory to overclock to 1886mhz if you run physx calculation on cpu, or for rendering.

are we allowed to put microcenter only pickup in store?

also, is HDD not necessary?

Yes. You don't need to be able to physically pick the part up, it just needs to be verified in price (which is why we use PCPartPicker). A HDD is not necessary, but some form of storage is (SSD, etc.). You'll get more votes if you have a large amount of storage (i.e. more than just a ~256GB SSD).
