Pokemon Y

super_teabag

Hey all, just teasing the idea of getting a 3ds, 3ds XL, or a 2DS. Also, getting pokemon Y to go with it. Have any of you played through pokemon Y, and what's your impressions of the game?

I havn't been in the pokemon series since pearl version. I played all the way up from gold -> crystal -> sapphire -> ruby -> and finally pearl version. I'm a little older now, but I know alot of longtime fans of the series have enjoyed this newest game.

On a side note which system should I pair it with? from what I've seen the 3ds can stream netflix, and I'd definately use that feature. I'd enjoy the extra real estate that the 3ds XL has.

Share your opinions! :) thanks

Y/X has great graphics, horrible lag due to bad optimization for fights, its has a lot of cool things like wonder trade and pokebank, but overall its not impressive and kinda degrading for the series IMO.

If you really want to get it, just get a 2ds or 3ds at most if you only want to play one game on it, as I did.

Get Monster Hunter or its not worth it...

If you're on a budget 2DS, otherwise I heard the XL is better

I really enjoyed pokemon Y, but it doesn't have more regions to explore, so it feels kind of short, although I haven't explored every corner of the map.

Graphically I LOVE it

It's a cool game, the first pokemon game I've ever played. But if you haven't actually purchased the console yet and this is the only game you want, you need nothing more than a 2Ds (unless you want stuff to be bigger...). This game makes very little use of 3D, and as Shd0w2 mentioned, the 3D battles lag (but not when in 2D). If, however, you plan to play something like, say, Super Mario 3D world, the depth perception is extremely useful.

I have X and it was a blast. The actual story was way too easy for my liking. I was able to level 6 core party members eveky without grinding which made going through the campaign a breeze. Its more about the end game in the newest generations as they made breeding for IVs super easy now. I miss the more difficult nature of breeding in the games of past. Even with those complaints I would say get it if you like the franchise.

If budget isn't an issue get the XL as the battery is the best on it. If you don't want to spend too much get the 2ds. I wouldn't even consider the regular 3ds

I got the 3DS just to play Pokémon Y and my partner for the XL for X and I noticed that due to the smaller screen on the 3DS compared to the XL the game detail looks better on the 3DS.

I started Pokemon with Gen 1 and have played through most of the games excluding the GBA generation. I'd say it's worth getting into purely for the fact that it's the most online Pokemon they've made yet. When you're breeding Pokemon for example you can just toss the extras onto Wonder Trade and get something random back. Then the actual trading section allows you to search for Pokemon you haven't seen yet. Sure a lot of the changes they made make the game "easier", like the default exp-share thing and IV simplification, but I never really thought that was the point.

It really just means that it takes less time to get a team ready that's good enough to compete online. Going online is where all of the fun is had, anything that gets me out of the grind phase and gets me online quicker is a big plus IMO. Personally I'd rate it as the second best Pokemon I've played with the best being the Gold/Silver/Crystal gen.
