gigabyte r9 270x 4gb overclock

gigabyte r9 270x overckolck r9 270x 4gb r9 radeon gigabyte r9 270x 4gb

Best Answer kinkywink , 02 April 2014 - 01:32 AM

Soo like if im playin sum game which uses more than 2 gb of ram will it make any difference?

put it this way,

if you benchmark a r9 270x 2gb and a r9 270x 4gb, assuming they are on stock clocks and are almost identicle, there will be absolutely no to very little performance increase.

this being because the 4gb card cant use all of the 4gb. but it may be able to use a little bit more then 2gb, maybe around 2.2-2.5gb

use MSI afterburner increase clock speed, memory clock, if you get artifacts on your screen, increase the voltage. repeat.

also the 4gb 270x is kinda pointless, it can't utilize all of the VRAM as the 270x can barely push 1440P with it's gpu

Don't touch the voltage if you are not experienced. Add 10-20 at a time and stop when it starts crashing and getting too hot.

What I mean is that someone that is overclocking for the first time shouldn't touch the voltage, or watch a guide or tutorial on how to do it with his specific card. A friend of mine fried his card because he thought he could do it by himself and added 1000 mhz on a 680 just to see what happened and was sure it wouldn't do any damage.

Depends, every card is different: Some overclock better than others, just try increasing everything in small portions and see if it performs stable.

It's not like you can increase the voltage excessively like you can on a CPU. There is a built in limit on pretty much every GPU that can only be bypassed by a new bios.

It's pointless when you have a single 4gb card which isn't powerful enough to use all of the 4gb. It's useful in crossfire, because every time you crossfire 2 cards this happens: 2gb+2gb 4GB, but you can use only half so you end up with only 2GB. With 4GB cards you get 4gb and 4gb 8gb and you end up using 4gb which can be handled by 2 cards together.

im not the only one who wants you to shoot yourself in the foot for that explanation, plus the gpu still cant use the 4gb. even if its in xfire

the Vram does not add together and only allow you to use half, its each gpu to there own, with the only exception to Vram being that if you have a 2gb card and a 4gb card, you will only have 2gb on both cards.
