NVIDIA Shield + GTX 650 Ti.. worth it?

orangefurball

Hello all.

I have been wanting an NVIDIA Shield for quite some time now, and with the $50 off its more compelling now than ever. I have tried gaming on my Android devices before and absolutely hate the games, but in home streaming is obviously amazing.

Here is my issue; I have a Radeon HD 7870. This card does everything I need and more, it just obviously wont work with the Shield. I am willing to buy a new card with it, I just don't want to go broke while doing it. The 650 Ti is only $129. With the shield its only going to be around $329. Would this card work well or should I go for the GTX 660? I don't want to sell my 7870 as it is still an amazing card, I would just throw it in another computer.

Thanks!
-Matt

I would get a 750ti it can play almost any game a 720p at preset ultra but for the shield to be able to use game stream you HAVE to have your computer plugged into your router and your router needs to have 867Mbps AC or faster or the shield will not let you stream games.

False. I have a Shield and an 802.11 N router and I can stream just fine.

Really, hows the lag, I'm getting a shield when I upgrade my computer, I'll have to do some testing with my Nighthawk.

Not bad at all actually. I only notice it alongside other heavy network usage.

I guess 300Mbps is enough cool.

My friend setup a proxy that allowed him to stream games from his computer at home to a different network, therefore allowing him to play games everywhere with a network connection, with and I'm not kidding NO LAG. My school's internet speed is 3 down 5 up. Which is insane since there is no lag.

You should make a bit of profit off that AMD card you already have.  A 750ti would probably be a pretty good bet.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.

thanks, I thought that only 600 series cards would work. I have an Asus AC router so that shouldn't be an issue.
