Best place to buy TV's?

Live in SoCal. Looking for a 40"-45" TV nothing special. 60hz, 1080p. Not really looking to spend TOO much money. I'd say like $300-$350? Or is that too low?

You can certainly get a HDTV for that price range, but it likely won't be very good, unless it's on an amazing sale. Granted, Canada is a bit more expensive then the USA, but I got a great deal on a 50" 1080p Plasma for $549.99 last year.

I think you'll be looking at $350-400 for a good 40" (btw there is no 45" TV, you're looking at generally 40, 42, 46, 50). It won't be a Smart TV, but you should be able to find a set with decent picture quality.

My recommendation is to check out what is available first (Esp if you're buying local), then narrow down your search to 2 or 3 sets based on your budget, and then finally read a ton of reviews on those sets, and check out personal experiences people have had on places like AVS Forum.

Next step is to preview the TV's in person at the store. The best thing to do is if they have the TV setup in a "Home Theater" room, then check that out first. Play around with the lighting (raising and lowering the light level), try different angles, how do the built-in speakers sound, etc. Be weary of how the TV's look on the display shelf - First, they often have the brightness cranked, to combat the fact that store-room floors are super bright, and usually aren't calibrated. What looks good or bad there may have no relevance once you get it home. This is why the "Home Theater" rooms are very important. A small indie Audio Video store generally has better lighting, and may even move the TV into their home theater room for you.

You've got your big box stores certainly, like Best Buy. Other good places would be wholesale clubs like Costco and Sams Club (They sometimes have really large discounts on good sets). There may be good local indie stores to buy from, but honestly, they probably won't be able to match or beat prices from the big stores unless they have a price-match policy.

Amazon is also a great place to shop. I have no idea if their free shipping applies to HDTV's or not, but if so, this is probably your best chance to get the best deal and still have really good selection.
