money

Paralectic

So soon I am building this PC for a friend of my cousin, and also kind of a friend of mine.

I have put several hours into investigating what he wants and what I should build for him with the budget he gave me and such.
I am against profiting from friends but for such thing I just want some money hm.

So about me:

I do work 40+ hours a week without gaining any money and I do need any money I could get because the low income I have currently.

He has a full-time job.

Is it normal for me to charge money for configuring his build and assembling it too with perfect cable management including OS installation etc.

I wouldn't charge my friends for building and troubleshooting their PCs. They mean more than me so I'd never charge for something like that.

Do you want money that badly?

It is normal for you to charge money, since clearly you are doing work for him.

Yeah that's true, I put alot of time into acknowledging myself about computer technology.

The store where he shops can assemble it for 50Euros and that will be with TERRIBLE cable management and such.

I was thinking about asking like 30Euros for it, am still not sure about how much and if I even should.

Not really, but he's not a close friend of mine. But we are cool though.

But doing real work for someone where you put time and energy in, I think asking a few *insert currency* isn't a bad thing for such job.

25-30 Euro is fair IMO. Especially since you will be doing real cable management I presume.

Depends on what your doing in my opinion if it was hauling goods or moving stuff I'd say its ok(if its like your friend moving then no).

But assembling a computer is fun to me and simple. I can do it fast and do it well, plus I kinda like being the go to guy for tech related stuff... so I wouldn't charge anyone for troubleshooting or building. In fact its usually other people handing me money for helping them out, I didn't even ask and when I refuse payment they always insist. I've even had people shove the money in my messenger bag when I didn't see.

Yeah I do also really enjoy what I will do and have done for him and I will see if he wants to give me any money, I don't think I will even ask for it: Money doesn't make me happy at all but I do still need it.

Paradox :-)

PC Building is making art in my opinion, nice color schemes with quality components in a sleek case with perfect cable management satisfies me alot.

Just tell him a slightly inflated price - add like $1-$5 to every part, he doesn't need to see a part by part breakdown of costs. So long as that's still within his budget.

Personally I would not charge for something so trivial. Especially when me or 99% of this forum would have done it for him for free. If I were you I would ask him if he felt you deserved to be paid or not. If he is grateful he might do it or he might just not feel you deserve it which I could understand either way.

I'd say an extra $50 for assembly.

Or how about you two get together and you show him how to build the computer and wire everything up like a friend would do instead of charging him for a tiny amount of work.

It's up to you. Often i don't ask for much and i get more.

I was fixing a laptop for my mate's sister and just set it running next to me while i was working on something else. Asked for a fiver for it to pay for my bus as i couldnt be bothered going to the bank and she gave me a tenner instead.

If you want to be sneaky you could always take a cut out of the build cost if they give you the money to get all the components and build it.
