Failure to configure windows update

Ahhlong

I recently went to update my windows and it restarts and come to a screen where it says failure to configure windows update reverting changes . It takes about 15 mins to do that and restarts itself . It does that for two times and then only boot into windows . How can I fix this ?

  • 4 weeks later...

i have exactly the same problem, it is a huge ~700MB update for windows 8.1 that fails upon startup (KB2919355). its driving me nuts and there is very little information to be had about what's actually wrong. also the font of a my system seems to have changed very slightly. texts that were normal before are now in bold or cursive.

the last changes made were installing lightworks.

If I am correct this is the new update for Windows 8.1 which is supposed to add some new features to the Windows itself, that's why it's so big. Anyway, you can try and do a system recovery and then reinstall the update again.

All I can say is if the update is causing problems for you, don't install the update.  A working computer without an update is better than a computer that doesn't work.

Desktop: Intel Core i7-6700K, ASUS Z170-A, ASUS STRIX GTX 1080 Ti, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 512 GB Samsund 840 Pro, Seasonic X series 650W PSU, Fractal Design Define R4, 2x5TB HDD

Hypervisor 1: Intel Xeon E5-2630L, ASRock EPC612D8, 16GB DDR4 ECC RAM, Intel RT3WB080 8-port RAID controller plus expansion card, Norco RPC-4020 case, 20x2TB WD Red HDD

Other spare hypervisors: Dell Poweredge 2950, HP Proliant DL380 G5

Laptops: ThinkPads, lots of ThinkPads
