HELIOS: Old School is Still Cool

flibberdipper

gallery_37587_679_9756.png

I decided to resurrect Apollo, but this is a whole new build (even with a different name). Now it's HELIOS. I'll only be able to do this rig on the weekends, but I'll probably update it on Sunday or Monday. Hopefully nothing will go wrong this time. I'll give you a little teaser.

But first, the specs of this beast (will get updated periodically):

  • Intel Pentium III "Katamai" 500MHz, 512KB cache, slot 1
  • 256MB PC100 RAM (2x128MB)
  • Intel WS440BX motherboard
  • 3dfx VooDoo 3 3000 16MB AGP 2x
  • SoundBlaster 16, Creative AudioPCI 128
  • Rosewill RV350
  • Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 40GB 6E040L0
  • Need optical drive/floppy drive
  • Windows 98 SE

UPDATE 5

This is a small update, but it is progress. I did my best to tuck away some of the cables. All that is left is to get an optical drive, floppy drive, and round IDE/floppy cables, then HELIOS is done. :)

I should get a side panel fan, but I don't have the money to spend and get a new one.

lol I just tried to think of nice names for it and this came to mind (mainly becuase alpenwasser's build inspired it). I don't think he'll mind.

Unfortunately, we got rid of all our PII and PIII computers and components a couple years ago so most of the stuff in our basement is P4 or nonworking Core 2 Duo.

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.

Yes. A slot CPU. It was actually my main PC 4 or so years ago until Windows got screwed up. Then I got my trusty netbook maybe a year or so after that.

I have the same mobo. I also have a slot 1 Pentium 2. However, my mobo is missing the black plastic mounts for the CPU on either side of the socket.

I like this mobo. "384MB max memory." HA. I've taken it to about a gig without any issues.

Classic components just have so much character.

Glad you're resurrecting them.

Thanks.  ^_^

On a build note, I found the HDD I'm going to use for it (and I already have it, which is really nice).
