My cheap & ghetto pc

I thought it would make update my build topic, my english is still not in the best of shapes, but regardless, let's begin.

 

The part choices are pretty ilogical in this build, so is the upgrade process, which in atleast 1/2 of the time is accualy a downgrade :P , the most performance i had whith my system was whith I3 2120 and 7850 1gb, though  I changed it just because i wanted to overclock the cpu, didn't really succeed as my current MB can't go past 1.56 vcore and randromly reboot's when ram speed exceeds 1600mhz(though i benched it once @ 2400 cl 12)

 

My pc right now:

CPU: A8 6600K
MB: A88XM-E35 (whith some cooling mods on power delivery)
RAM: Gskill Trindnet 2000mhz cl9 4gb kit (2x2gb) (running @ 1600mhz cl11 because my MB can't handle any higher clocks :( )
PSU: Xsilence 550w
VGA: Built in 8570D @ 1100'ish mhz
HDD: 1.5 Tb Seagate Barracuda
Case: Some old scrached up step case, i don't care that much about the looks because the PC sits below my desk most of the time.
 

CPU upgrade list:
Pentium 4 ht @ 2.8 (478) ---> Athlon X3 460 (AM3) ---> Phenom X3 710 (AM3) ---> Pentium D 820 (775) ---> FX 4100(AM3+) ---> I3 2120(1155) ---> Core 2 duo t5600(i used a laptop) ---> A8 6600k (FM2)

GPU upgrade list:
430 Gt(1Gb) ---> 3870 (512Mb) ---> 4850 (512Mb) ---> 4870 (1Gb) ---> 7850(1Gb) ---> 8600GT(256mb) ---> 8600 GTS(256mb) ---> Intel Gma 945(8mb(haven't seen a worse gpu than this one, but atleast it could play NFS UG2 @ ~20-30fps))---> 8570D (256-768mb)

Case upgrade list:
none ---> Pizza box ---> Shoe Box ---> That step case ---> None (better temps for litecoin mining :P) --->  Shelf below my desk ---> inside my desk ---> Some chair that i found ---> That step case

 

Current look of my pc:

Tied the xsilence fan to my case whith zipties, it works atleast, I did it because i really needed the vrm and ram cooling, the black/white wire is for clearing cmos, as i used to overclock this thing almost daily :)

And in it's natural habitat, ya i know i'm braggig whith mediocre hardware boxes, i keep 'em only because i might need them for warranty purposes.

Other pics:This is the oldest picture that i could find, here i'm running Athlon X3 460 whith 4Gb of ram, a AMD 5670 and 160+40 gb hdd's in jbod

This is the case i was running at the time, can't remember the name though  (the lights are the fan controller)

This is a bit later, i changed the gpu to 3870(yes, i know it's a downgrade) and the harddrive to a single WD 320 gb

This is after i baked my first card, a Nvidia 8600gt, (oven mits i needed to remove the card, that thing hitted 110 degrees celsius on the core whith passive cooling :O )

This is a bit after that, i changed the PSU to a simmiliar 550w whitout the flashy lights, added a 60g ssd, changed the mb to a badass MSI one and changed the gpu to a 4870 1gb

 

It was on there only beceuse it gets lower temps that way.

That's the cpu cooler, i got the fan superglued to the zallman copper part, which is thightened whit zipties.

This is how real men mount their coolers :P

The GPU, its the MSI 7850 1Gb edition,. I like it, currently though it's only mining litecoins and sometimes i play LoL on it. (when i'll get a beter platform and a hdd i'll get back to gaming more + i have got tests in the next month or so, so i'll be busy)

The storige. Currently im only using this because my 1.5tb hdd will be arriving soon. I really like this ssd, it's cheap, powerful, and i can easly fit windows, ubuntu and some apps on it

The PSU. This is some noname 500w psu, i really hate it because it gets really hot and annoys me all of the time (the fan is xsilence, i changed it because the stock one broke)

Dat pheriphials, it's a cheap HP mouse, a old logitech keybord, and an optimus 2x, because the mic port is broken on my MB, i'll get a soundcard soon (ignore, the candy, i love me some candy)

This is my monitor, using it still in 2014, nice 17 inch model, and i don't really need more, I'll probably upgrade it some day or bust out 2 other simmilar ones and run eyefinity(accualy it's a nice setup, i've used it before and i personaly liked it.)

 

So, what was the point of this, thread? I wanted to show how i have tinkered around whith my pc for the past year or so (the first picture was in august 2012), i thought it was cool, and i would love some ideas in dhe comments :)

Why did you downgrade to a Pentium D from a Phenom or am i missing something?

I sold pretty much everything and bought a new system, thats why i went to the pentium. I will have a tough choice to make in the next month or so, to choose between FX6300 and some intel I5, non K part.

Updates. 

The noname PSU died, had to replace it, i went whith 550w xsilence one, because i got it cheap (~30 USD)

I decided to finaly put the PC back in it's can, and found 5 zipties whith which to do cable management

I had enough of this cluster**** and finaly decided to put it in it's can.

The case itself, it's a cheap step one which i had since my first computer which was running P4.

A wild screw appears. This isn't pointless.....

It's for mounting a ssd ! Deffinetly a feature that the makers could have forseen in 2002 or whenever this case was designed.

The interior, whith some cable management, could have done better, but the psu is non-modular and i have to hook up a lot of things whith only 5 zipties.

The back of the case, could have offloaded a lot more cables here if the gap between sidepanel and MB tray would have been bigger, did as best as i could though.

The front pannel, i used only the power up swich, thats why the other cables ar wired randromly.

Near the end of assembly i ran out of screws so i had to use Motherboard standoffs to mount the hdd.

The case itself, whithout one sidepanel, quite scrached up and dirty one, i'll upgrade to a Core 1000 one day....

The case in all of it's non existing glorry, self painted and self scrached sidepanels :)

And finaly, it in it's natural habitat.

Also got some stuff for my upgrade to SAM3+ , i think of going whith a FX 6350 or 6300, what do you guys think?

Save some money for a cpu cooler and get the fx 6300 and oc it.

How are you using an Intel board on an AMD platform? :P

 

But the rig is decent enough for gaming. Just get some RAM and a new chassis and everything else and you'll be good :P

I'm using an Intel 820 on my intel board, and the AMD MB is sitting unused right now. 

It's not enough for gaming, the cpu can bearly handle source games @ 30 fps, so a upgrade is necessary.

Ok, let's update this thread.

It's been almost a year since i updated this thread, and i didn't really feel like updating the descriptions on all of the pictures , so don't feel alarmed if something sounds wrong in my posts, as i said, they are almost a year apart

 

 

 

Currently I'm using my trusty APU setup, i like it, though it isnt as powerful as my I3+7850 combo was, it still performs well for the money. (btw, When picking parts for an APU build, don't skimp on the MB, my A88 chipsed MB whith A8 6600k outperformed my frends A55+ A10 6790K) as i mostly play CS GO right now, whith some other games inbetween.

 

Some pictures from the past year-or-so:

 

This gives the PSU + 10 Fire resistance, which i really need because my last one whent up in flames (ok, not really i just sticked it there because i thought it looked cool, deal whith it )

This is the CPU power delivery cooling-mod-thingy, it really needed one, because it got flipin' hot, almost burned my finger once just by toching it.

This is the chipset cooling, superglued and added some thermal paste inbetween, just to keep temps under control.

This is the PCI-E port on my current MB , never plug in old geforce cards whith pci-e extenders whithout pci-e power, the port could work though, i've really never tested it since.

My amd cpu boxes, never really owned a FX 8150, just had the box, in which i got my FX 4100

Some mobile modding, because why not(battery was terrible, had to improvise)

Samsung's battery died, wanted to turn it on regardless

Tower made out of sodimm ram's , because why not.

What happened to the PCI-E extender when i pluged in the Nvidia card whithout external power (lasted for ~3 seconds)

This is how i ran my pc for a while, i got bored and just made my computer desk into a PC case (i eventualy cut out holes for some air circulation)

How do we screw in MB standoffs? well whith another MB standoff of course

Three dead Nvidia cards i have, haven't got around to fix them yet, need some capacitors.

Some OC session i ran when it was cold outside, took some of the records for my cpu currently by doing so.

Lowest i got my temps down to, let's wait for next year and hope there will be some odd -20 degrees outside, for sience of corse

Ran my pc like this for a while, just because i got better cooling that way.

Had no 2.5 inch hdd, had to improvise.

Fastest my pc has ever been, I3 2120 whith a 7850

3 4:3 monitor eyefinity is accualy pretty awesome.

This thread kind of reminds me of myself back in the days when I started modding and tweaking everything electrical around me.. Literally..

I built a PC in an old fridge in 2002, temps where incredible for a month or so.. (until it died a really horrible death due to humidity) Had some record scores on 3dmark..
