HDMI version used in your laptop OR the HDMI cable used doesn't support more than 1080p at 60Hz, is what it looks like.
If it's not the cable, ASUS probably used an old version of HDMI, due to the high royalty cost needed for the latest and greatest version of HDMI. This is common thing. And even then, I RARELY ever saw HDMI on either desktop graphic card and laptop, actually work well like DVI or DisplayPort. HDMI was not designed for computer it was designed for home entertainment (TV's, Blu-ray, etc. is what I mean).
I recommend to people to always looks for DisplayPort on a laptop (or dual link DVI if you can have that, but that's very rare). DisplayPort works perfectly like DVI. It's only downside is if you need to drop DisplayPort down to dual link DVI, then you need an expensive adapter/converter, but single link DVI (1920x1200 @ 60Hz max) then just an inexpensive adapter one is all you need. Today, more and more monitors have DisplayPort, so I don't think its much an issue.
