Your Folding Rig(s)

I've often thought about the concept of an ASIC folding card, since when it came to bitcoin mining, I was just floored by the fact that you could get orders of magnitude better performance out of something drawing orders of magnitude less power and taking up way less space, but I suppose this could never happen since each WU would probably need a different type of card xD

i dont think that works tbh i'm pretty sure you should be getting well over 3 million ppd and 2 of those cards wont be running at 100% usage with the 4th card maybe running at 25% usage

My one card seems to average about 670-720k PPD after letting it fold at 1500 mhz for like 2 weeks straight, so I think 2.2m for 4 cards that are probably lower clocked sounds about close to what I'd think it should be

No because 2 of the slots will be running at 4x so they will be bottlenecked,  even at just 600k ppd per card they would get 2.4m

i would only bother folding on the gpu. if you can get a nice little 750ti or other lowish end gpu to go in with that i5 that would work great.

It's more about the client. This "card" wouldn't be to popular and the FAH team would need to make a custom client for it. And their are various types of ASIC cards... so... diminishing return their investment. Hence why the client only really supports the "mainstream" hardware.

currently running on my new rig intel i7 6700k 16gb DDR4 3000mhz. (no GPU just onboard for now) averaging about 3700 with this machine

when my laptop is on it runs. not lately though. it's a Dell XPS 17" core i7 2.0ghz 8gb ram, nvidia 555m GPU. (not the best machine for pegging at 99%, so i capped it at 75%.

ATM i'm only using my gaming pc.

i7 6700k @ 4.4 Ghz

MSI 980 Ti @ 1492 Mhz

Corsair 105H CPU cooler.

Fractal design Define case.

But i'll soon be setting up my old PC to fold as well, old HP pavilion with

Intel i7 870 @ 2.93 Ghz

ASUS EN210 silent GPU (had an AMD HD 5770 HD, but my brother stole it lol)

I've put some feeler's out to any contact's i can find to try to get some secondhand PC's to set up a "farm" in my office as well.

Also, since i eventually want to set myself up for 4k gaming at 120hz, once the 1080Ti is realesed i plan of putting two of them in my gaming PC, so i will then put my 980Ti in my old PC for folding, as well as running two 1080 Ti's (or whatever Nvidia end up calling it) when i'm not actually gaming.

Rig 1

Asrock Z97 Extreme 4

Some i3 and some DDR3

EVGA 650 G2

EVGA 980ti SC (blower fan)

MSI 970 (blower fan)

Some might say that the 650W PSU is on the low side, but I say "Let it work for a living!"

Rig 2

MSI H81-P33M

Some i3 and some DDR3

Antec Green 380W

MSI GTX 960 Gaming

Rig 3

Some HP thing

EVGA GTX 960 SC

The GTX 960's and the 980ti are running between 1450-1500Mhz

The GTX 970 is at 1350Mhz

I haven't spend much time on CPU throttling, but Rigs 1 and 2 are both running max CPU 75% in Windows power management. That doesn't seem to affect anything. Next logical step would be 50% but haven't had the time.

All are folding 24/7, spewing out around 1.1-1.2m ppd

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm new to the team, but not to folding.  Been folding about 3 years solid now, and my machines have grown over time.

Right now I'm folding on 3 boxes: a dedicated folder, another that serves as a family room pc, and my office/gaming rig.

Specs for the machines below...

Dedicated folder (built with inspiration after my mom passed from an autoimune disease that affected her lungs)

Case: Fractal Arc XL

Mobo: MSI XPower Z87

CPU: i7 4790K (OC @4.4ghz; folding on 4 threads)

GPU: 3x EVGA 780 ACX SC

SSD: older 128 GB OCZ

PSU: EVGA G2 1200 Watt

Cooling:  Custom watercooled loop for GPUs and CPU with a thick 280mm rad and thin 360mm rad, with a mixture of Fractal and Noctua fans.

OS: Win10

Office/Gaming rig

Case: Fractal Define S

Mobo: Asus Z77 LE

CPU: i5 3570K (OC at 4.3 GHz; folding on 2 threads)

GPU: EVGA 980ti SC ACX

SSD: 480 GB Crucial

HDD: 2 TB Hitachi

PSU:  EVGA G2 850

Cooling: Corsair H80i

OS: Win10

Family Room PC (built with parts left over from upgrades to the two above machines)

Case: Thermaltake New Soprano

Mobo: MSI Z97 G55 SLI

CPU: Haswell Pentium G (3120?)

GPU: HIS AMD 7870 and Gigabyte R9 390 G1 gaming

SSD: 240 GB  Crucial

PSU: EVGA G2 850

Cooling: Stock Intel fan

With these 3 machines folding near 24/7, I have averaged between 1.2-1.7M PPD over the last 6 months, and earned over 500M for another team, before I just switched to LTT.

Cheers!

LW

I'm currently folding here and there on my laptop and desktop (specs in sig). Laptop does about 3.5k PPD if i leave it going, which I don't because I have school during the day and can't always have it on. I haven't looked and PPD on my desktop yet but that folds only when I'm using it because I can't leave a window air conditioner running while I'm away or overnight (too much electricity). Once winter comes around I'll put my Dell Precision T5400 back together (2x Xeon X5450 8c,8t@3ghz, 32gb ram, and whatever extra GPU'S I have laying around) and use it to heat my bedroom. I will also run my secondary rig in the winter (specs in sig).

I have a dedicated rig which servers as my main server for the whole house and folds pretty much 24/7 throughout the year and then I have my gaming rig which folds when idle. For a while I had a coupe fully loaded UCS chassis dedicated to folding at work that were sitting idle but the client kept failing to grab work units. That was about 500GHz of processing power I could never make full utilization of :(

Have one decticated folding/boinc rig.  Fold a bit on the main rig, mostly just let my 2nd GPU on it fold non stop.  Though, occasionally on weekends both GPUs do Poem, Einstein, or PrimeGrid units in BOINC.

Here my little folder with stuff shoved into a old NZXT Apollo case (my first case I built in).  Got a new case for it, but busy with classes atm.

DSC_0026.JPG

If curious that a GTX960 with a H60 smacked on it.  Abuse the crap out of it since it been folding non stop for almost two years now at above 1550MHz.  Stays a nice 40-41C temp with ambient in 25.6C range.

What is below it is a crap tard 980STRIX....thing is a screaming banshee if I try to fold on it.

DSC_0027.JPG

Front shot, with the H50 ghetto rigged in front with zip ties.  Cools the old 1090T that I bought off a guy.  It came with mobo and that H50.  No clue how old the darn thing is, but it keeps on running.
