So I decided to get an SSD (the Samsung 840 Evo 120GB) to replace my hard drive (Seagate Momentus 5400.6 160GB, 5400RPM). I haven't bought the SSD yet, but it's coming. I'll reserve a post for then, and I'll tag everyone who posts when I update the log. Sorry that it's such a mess. I forgot and took out the keyboard and a few screws before I did the pictures. Sorry.

The Atom uses this large metal plate as a HEATSINK. Terrible idea. I think the chipset has dedicated cooling.

 

 

Gotta take out the screws, iFixit style.

 

All the screws removed.

 

Gotta remove the touchpad (Sorry for my finger).

 

It's a hinge. Gotta be careful, they're a pain in the ass to get back in (according to the one YouTube video I watched).

 

Next I had to flip it over and take out 4 screws on the corners.

 

Have to remove the RAM cover.

It and all of it's nakedness. Good luck trying to get my XP key, suckers. It wore off from all the use. 

 

CAREFULLY prying off the touchpad/heatsink assembly. This part scared the shit out of me, since I thought I was going to break some of the clips that help hold it down.

 

IT'S OFF!

I didn't go for the laptop upgrade, since I didn't need the 2mm spacer.

 

I lost this damn screw under the SD card reader, so I had to take it out and get it.

Put the SATA cable in.

 

Plugging the touchpad in.

 

Screwing the heatsink/touchpad thingy back in.

I prefer the cheddar cheese and wheat crackers.  The Peanut butter ones don't have enough in them IMO. Grilled cheese flavor is amazing as well.

Haven't measured boot times yet (getting all the updates and crap piled on) but the logoff times are great! I did get a video of it when it was barebones stock, but the blue was way out of balance, so I'm not going to upload it. Sad;y, the CPU seems to be a bottleneck. But things do come up pretty much instantly.

Man, all I had to do to slap a ssd in my laptop was unscrew one screw for the plastic cover and pull the hdd out and put the ssd in then put the cover back and boot lol.
