How to remove the irritating white screen when loading the next page.

I HAVE NOT MADE THIS PLUGIN... Source in the link at the end!

This is a guide that I have found and changed so that for all of you guys that use the dark theme on here can get rid of the irritating white screen between page loads so that you don't get flashed with a bright white screen in between loading of the next page. The original tutorial is designed to do it for every website however you can easily alter it, like I did. If anyone knows a way to get it working then comment below and I will add it here. Keep in mind that all this plugin does is change that white screen to be black during loading of the next page.

Here are the 2 versions of this plugin:

Altered to work on LTT only: LINK

Original (Works on every page): LINK

Make sure that you keep the files in the folder they are in when extracting.

In chrome, go to Settings -> Extensions -> turn on Developer Mode (located in top right corner) -> Click load unpacked extension -> Choose the folder you just extracted.

The plugin should pop up in your list of plugins and should be active.

This works for Chrome and also Opera as @KakaoDj mentioned.

:D My brother is always like, "Who's turning the lights on and off?!?" And I'm like *facepalm*.

I'm actually using Waterfox (basically Firefox). Do you know a solution to the same issue? I've gotten the new tab background darkened (which also changed default page backgrounds also), but there is still an obnoxious white flash when I load a new thread in another tab and I switch to it before it's loaded.

nvm, a restart fixed it....

Hey can you help me out a little?

The "works on all sites" download only works on LTT, and when I checked the code it is exactly the same as the LTT only plugin.

I also tried using the code from the original site you linked and it didnt work with the "http://*/*" thingy, does there need to be an actual sire url there?

thanks

Very nice, thanks. Works on LTT, not sure about other sites, they normally jump straight from one page to another with no blank in between at all.

It seems that the all websites code applies to websites that start with HTTP and HTTPS since that is what the code says and I have no idea how to get it to work on every website even those that work without the HTTP/S and WWW at the beginning. Never did Javascript so I'm clueless. So if someone knew how to get the code to cover every possible website then that would solve it and it would work I think.

It doesn't work for me on LTT anymore, was it just designed to change it from white to a black background, if so it still doesn't resolve the issue.

Yeah that's all it does. I don't understand why Chrome has to bring up a white blank page between websites when they load. I'm all about having dark themes on every possible website since it is easier on my eyes and the white page is sometimes irritating, especially at night.

Firefox doesn't do it, I would use firefox but so many extensions that I use are only available on chrome.

I'm in the same situation. Apparently the white screen between pages is caused by how Chrome renders websites and the only some what reasonable solution is to change the colour of that page to something else like black; which is what this extension supposed to do.

I'm sure google will eventually fix it(hopefully), firefox with no flashes gives the illusion it's much smoother.

It appears to be an issue that has been brought up back in 2008 and still not fixed (according to this report: LINK). Seems a little strange that Google hasn't addressed it since. Some websites don't have the white page flash since they have the background colour set to whatever their page background is which makes it look more seamless without the white page flashing up. Nonetheless still an issue that should have been fixed long ago in my opinion. Clearly something doable if Firefox doesn't have it.

So a little change to the code of the forum would resolve this on chrome? (probably a little more difficult than it sounds)

That's just my uneducated guess. it's probably a more complex issue :P Then again that is all the extension does and it works.
