Hey... Im in the Hunt for a new monitor and i got confused with the 80000000:1 thingy.. What does it mean??

Yeh, it's the contrast ratio, pretty sure it means that's how many colours it can show. Not quite sure though.

Nope, it's the range of difference between white and black. the uber high number ones are mostly made up to make it look better. "dynamic contrast ratio" the actual contrast is usually around something like 1:1000 for most monitors. (+-10x)

Static contrast ratio is the luminosity ratio comparing the brightest and darkest color the system is capable of producing simultaneously at any instant of time, while dynamic contrast ratio is the luminosity ratio comparing the brightest and darkest color the system is capable of producing over time (while the picture is moving).
