Canon XA20 Camcorder

Amazon: http://georiot.co/63M

The XA20 is a pretty phenomenal run & gun camcorder for light ENG or documentary work. Personally I use it whenever I need an all-in-one handheld solution and I don't want to fuss with microphones and lenses. The good news is that it CAN use XLR or 3.5mm microphones so the flexibility is definitely there. It also has outstanding zoom and optical image stabilization, making it great for something like a kid's Christmas recital... Although it's a little bit more prosumer focused, and pretty expensive for that kind of usage model.

This is a pretty good camera and we actually just picked up 3 of them for the film program at my school.  The only feature that I wish was brought over from the XA10 is internal memory storage, comes in handy when a sd card isn't available.  Aside from that though it's a great and easy to use camera.

Dat price. Seems like a great camera for "prosumers". I'm not into the technical side of cameras so I had no idea what you were talking about for the last couple of minutes.

My other complaint is that the size and weight increase is quite noticeable when you're hand-camming it.

Other than that the XA10 can die in a fire for all I care. Long live the XA20.

Ya I've noticed that its not too bad for short bursts but after an hour on the sideline of a football game you start to get annoyed, beats holding an xl though which is what we used to do o-o.  That shall not be missed.

Definitely XA20 for life.

The camera was released before all this 4k rage, so no 4k for the XA20.  I believe Sony is the only one to announce a 4k "camcorder" so far.

I'm fairly sure we have some of these at my school! It's either the XA10, or the XA20, either way, I'll be using one for my multimedia major project this year. I'll find out which one when school returns :D

But that's not near the quality expected of a prosumer camera. I'm sure you could make a 4K camera, for pretty cheep, but it wouldn't be that quality.

Or I could be wrong?

Hey Linus, We use an XA10 for recording school productions.

How do you stop it chopping the footage into little bits?

It's a nice camera, but for shooting quick videos and hand camming on the go, is this much better than a 700€ Sony RX-100 Mk II? I have one and I've cut it with DSLR footage a few times and it looked fine.
