ATX to ITX

Go to solution Solved by Curufinwe_wins,

I assumed you wanted 16 GB ram but if not subtract about 40 dollars from total. Personally I would either stay where you are or move to haswell instead, because the price difference is huge and the performance difference is not.

Hey all! I'm currently running an i5-3570k with a z75 motherboard. I want to downsize to a m-itx form factor. Issue is there aren't too many 1155 mitx boards to pick from. So I'm thinking about making the change to 1150/1151 socket. For gaming and general productivity would it be better to get a non-k chip and non-z board? I'm just running an r9 380 at this point anyways. I wouldn't want to do too high of an OC if I did get a K simply because of the form factor. Much love!

You are still capable of doing *very* high overclocks on ITX (Not about the board too much, but about the cooler and the chip itself) some games benefit slightly from an overclock.

If you don't have the intentions to overclock. Just grab a decent H97/H170 board with a I5-6600, and you'll be set.

If you were to get a new rig, what would be your budget and what parts would you reuse?

There is one M-itx z77 board I could get which is $200 or so. If I stick with my i5 that is what I would prob get.

I'd reuse my psu, storage, and gpu. Ram if I stuck with ddr3 and that would be it. Budget wise I'd like to keep things under $800.

6400 would be more cost effective.

I wasn't sure if the lower end I5's had been released yet.

That only has a clock of 2.7. Would that be enough for current gen games?

They have. The i3's not so much.

Turbo's to 3.3 and even with h170 you can now overclock base clock to make up the difference without causing issues. (you can't change multiplier, but that doesn't matter much. You should be able to hit 3.7-3.9 on stock cooler since its the same chip as the i5-6600 which turbo's up to 3.9)

If you don't like the red accents on the interior of the case, just replace it with the normal black version.
