Which one is more "worth it"?

Go to solution Solved by GzeroD,

I would save the extra cash and go with the Haswell.

I need to know which build is preferred and why. Is Skylake worth the $200 extra? I know the 6700K will perform marginally better despite similar specs, but is it worth such an overhead?

I'm pretty sure one is Haswell e and one is Skylake that sort of means that there actually not identical. At all.

I originally posted the same build twice by accident. I only just changed it.

Yeah you wouldn't want to buy older hardware unless it's a tier above. For example skylake is a direct replacement for Haswell/z97 but X99 is a tier above haswell, if that makes any sense to you

It does, I just don't think any CPU's on the X99 platform fit into my budget.

Its cheaper than the z170 build and that price includes a graphics card but I doubt you'll wanna buy a 390x when you have a 980Ti

Yep. Not opting to buy a new 390X.

I've settled on the Haswell.

a 390x isn't even a competitor too the 980Ti.

eitherway. I think you'll be happy. there is a significant savings for equivalent performance. and it's not like the 6700k is a straight upgrade over the 4790k with it's higher boost clocks (and at least so far higher average overclocks.)

Z170 motherboards look 100% better imo I think I'm gonna have to go out and buy a i5 6600k just to get a z170 deluxe.

If your big on aesthetics this could be a big one. I'm not a big fan of the Z170 boards but if you see something that catches your eye and you can build around it it can really tie a build together.

My black and white build completely REKT by a red motherboard I just wish the z97 Krait wasn't so basic and the Sabertooth Mark S wasn't so expensive

You could Plastidip your heat sinks. That wouldn't make it perfect but it would be much improved.
