What external hard drives do you recommend for backing pictures, documents, and stuff like that?
Hey there Dobbsjr,
If it's simple secondary storage that you need from the drive, it won't really matter which drive you'd get in terms of features. Another option, besides a regular external drive, would be a good internal drive with an external enclosure or a docking station.
From the WD like I can recommend both WD My Passport Ultra and WD Elements portable as both of them are really good for this purpose. WD My Passport Ultra has an additional hardware encryption features that makes it impossible for the drive to be read outside of the enclosure or without the password (if you have set one). If you feel the need of such feature - go with that drive. Otherwise - WD Elements Portable. Here are links with more info on both drives:
