Best external drive for backing up?

Dobbsjr
Go to solution Solved by Captain_WD,

What external hard drives do you recommend for backing pictures, documents, and stuff like that?

Hey there Dobbsjr,

If it's simple secondary storage that you need from the drive, it won't really matter which drive you'd get in terms of features. Another option, besides a regular external drive, would be a good internal drive with an external enclosure or a docking station.
From the WD like I can recommend both WD My Passport Ultra and WD Elements portable as both of them are really good for this purpose. WD My Passport Ultra has an additional hardware encryption features that makes it impossible for the drive to be read outside of the enclosure or without the password (if you have set one). If you feel the need of such feature - go with that drive. Otherwise - WD Elements Portable. :) Here are links with more info on both drives:

Feel free to ask if you happen to have any questions or if I can help you with something else :)

Captain_WD.

Just any external drive you find would work fine. WD makes nice ones.

WD Passport ftw.

Don't buy Seagates.

It has high failure rates than any other.

Just my story there ^

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

Yeah, Don't ever look for Seagate drives. imo they had best drives before 6 years or so.

But not now.

I have like 9-10 non working Seagate drives. Every drives has bad sectors and some of them won't even be detected.

Most of the drives are my friend's and relative's. They gave it to me to recover data from that.
