Upgrade on the way

Go to solution Solved by shypin,

DDR4 is nothing to wait over. Plus it would cost more money and skylake is suppose to cost more also.

well ddr4 is where the future is headed

i think his computer should be able to handle his programming work

maybe just upgrade the gpu and wait a year or so to upgrade the rest?

Hello guys.

I believe i have helped many people in the forums, but  this time i

am in need of your help.I do  not game that much anymore, but i would like to be able to,

i need a rig that can play decently games at 1080p , but mainly  i will be doing programming work.

I am planning of upgrading my 4 year old rig, one part at a time.

My old pc:

Intel Core i5 2320 3Ghz cpu

Arctic Freezer i11 cpu cooler

Gigabyte H61M-USB3-B3 mobo

Samsung EVO 120GB ssd

WB caviar Blue 1 TB + WB caviar Blue 500 GB hdd

AMD HD 6790 1 GB GDDR5 gpu

Corsair GS Series 600W psu

Windows 8.1 Pro os1

Arch Linux os2

LG optical Drive

CoolerMaster Elite 430 case

My budget is 1000 euros, but i would be happy if i could save some money to go on vacation with my gf.

Also i have found a second hand gtx 980 windforce for 350 euros, but i need to test it first, and a second hand 4770k for 280 euros,

also needs testing. Otherwise i would prefer a r9 390.

Finally, would be worth buying the 4770k, or i should wait for skylake (tbh i was not upgrading because all i hear is that skylake will

come with a vast improvement on performance over haswell)

Edit. I will also keep the ssd+hdd

GPU first, then the rest. Though I would hold off some of these things, hard times are coming for us.

@jimakos234

True story bro.

Anyway i am going to wait for a while, i will just upgrade the gpu for now

Just a question. Is the gtx 980 going to get bottlenecked by the  i5 2320 at all?

There would be a bottleneck, but it won't be noticeable.
