Should next-gen consoles come with built in dust-filters?

Go to solution Solved by karimhasebou,

This is a question that has been thought about.

Should next-gen consoles come with built in dust-filters?

We've all seen the problems associated with the last-gen consoles including the overheating on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. This led to people having to open up their consoles, void the warranty, and clean out the dust, but what if filters came built into the system? I imagine these filters would be on the intakes of the consoles and the screw for removing them hidden under a plastic cover on the outside of the console. This would make it so users can simple remove cover, unscrew a single screw and pull out the dust filter for cleaning.

Benefits:

-Less dust on the consoles components.

-Better cooling (If the filters are cleaned every 6 months)

-Longer lifespan

Drawbacks:

-Users won't know this filter exists.

-Could clog if uncleaned for years.

Is this a good or bad idea?

It's a very obvious thing to have as preventing dust build up does improve both performance and life if the device!!!

how about we have no new consoles and evryone gets a PC? have you thought about that one?

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW EXPENSIVE IT WOULD BE FOR SONY AND MICROSOFT TO IMPLEMENT THEM?! AT-LEAST A DOLLAR!

No but seriously, there are many reasons why they won't. They should but they just like to fuck their consumers in the arse.

That's a great point! Another thing I can't understand is why Microsoft and Sony use cheap fricken thermal compound in their consoles, why not sign a deal with Artic Silver and have Artic Silver 5 be the standard thermal paste as well.

The cheaper the paste, the quicker it'll die.

The quicker they cash in another $50.

TBH I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. The next gen consoles probably won't come for another 6+ years (if they do at all), and by then a lot will have changed for PCs. There will probably be many console-esque devices running SteamOS (or another similar futures OS).

Should next generation consoles come with built in dust filters?  Of course they should but I think like others have said Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo would prefer our systems die at some point so we have to buy another. LOL!

Its not hard to just go buy the material and add your own. Tape it to the outside of the fans on the console and there you go. Problem solved. Doesnt void warranty either.
