As you say, it's in alpha right now and many changes can be made considering if they want to make money off of it or if they drop it.

Hey guys! I just had a personal sit down with a dev over at https://discordapp.com ! They are working on some crazy stuff i have a video coming out on this subject The program is 3months old and in a stable running alpha. Its sorta like if Skype and Team speak had a baby than that baby grew up to have kids with curse and mumble. No im not trying to advertise i just want to bring out some news :/ i guess it came off that way sorry. But i am the only person that has this info, Yall are pc gamers and a good voip program is hard to come by. News is news and this is good news.

In-game overlay? How does that work with steam?

They plan on doing a thing like cs:go you pay for skins and voice packs ect

Okay, hold on. A few questions and then my explanation for these questions;

 

1. Is this P2P or requires a server to connect to?

2. Is this just voice and text communication?

3. Is there a simple UI option?

 

1. Personally I prefer Teamspeak due to my ability to host my own privately, but it's nice to have P2P alternatives/temporary server use.

 

2. You mentioned it's a "Skype" killer? So does this do video? Because the only thing Skype has going for it is video communication. If Discord can do video and it's P2P then yeah I'd consider this a Skype killer, but I see nothing about video communications in your YouTube video.

 

3. The UI is absolutely huge. I would not use this at all based on the fact that the UI is that big. If this can be smaller/less space consuming then disregard this complaint.

 

This looks like it could be a great program to use, as long as it stays free. I know you said that they plan to do skin/voice packs, but I have voice and skin packs for free for Teamspeak  and Teamspeak is free* :/

 

 

*Yes, I know you need a server, but there are plenty of public ones to use and I'm sure you can find community and private servers to use as well.

It won't be a Skype killer, even if it's superior. The biggest reason someone uses one communication platform over another is because their friends use it. People are already using established services so for me or anyone else to use this one we would have to convince maybe 10 other people to chance, which is not easy.

I am pretty sure that's why Razer Comms failed, despite having lots of advertising behind it.

Already using it with my Free Company on FFXIV 

The interface is really pretty and more modern than stuff like mumble.



But tbh, its nothing different from normal VOIP services aside from being pretiier.

It was about time something, i dont like the name tough, dont like it at all doesnt ring right.

Problem is people wont give up skype especially casuals, people will jsut say fuck that give me your skype name or whatever.

I dont understand how to use it either.

ITs pretty nice presentation wise (as i have alrdy mentioned about it looking pretty. 

However theres not much else differentiating it from mumble and team speak. Oh, I forgot to emntion they have a web client too... so if you're space constraint (thos windows tablet or what not) you can just use the we4b interface . its almost exactly the same.

Also i believe theres an andriod app, tho you can only listen in to voice chat and not participate in it thus far.

Isn't Skype WILDLY vulnerable?  Why would anyone use that?

Yes it is if i get in skype call with you i can have your ip within minutes
