Corsiar power supply runs hot

Guest acdcman200
Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

The annoying part about the RM is that it doesn't have a physical switch to turn hybrid fan off and force the fan to run all the time if you're in a warm environment, unlike competing XFX XTR and EVGA G2 which have this switch. Yet another reason why RM are quite crap for the price.

My corsair rm power supply is running hot as hell. It gets the to the point where i shut off my pc to avoid damaging the power supply. Is it a problem with the rm series of power supply's or is just my particular one? If any of you guys had to deal with RMA through Corsiar how is the RMA process?

Does it run hot under load or idle? What kind of load are you putting on it? Is the fan working?

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

Sounds like a fan issue to me you need to check if the fan is spinning at all.

Yea, check the fan first.

If its not working you should be able to RMA it easily. Corsair is usually good with that kind of stuff.

It is definitely defective to some extent because it should never be getting overly hot with idle speeds.

i'd suggest buy a new one and go for RM850, because as i sad RM 750 will cause problems again.

it's not about fixing it, the caps from 650-750 series and 850-1000 are from entirely different country, if you willing to take a chance , yea sure RMA it.

Just RMA it, the old RM have been replaced with the new RM which are better in terms of capacitors and use a different OEM. However, if you are going to get an all new PSU, don't get another RM, or even another Corsair PSU at their current overpriced prices.

My Thermaltake 500 Watt that's not rated for efficiency (AKA terrible efficiency) gets really hot and the first time it got very hot it made a weird smell (must've be plastic heating up), but now it's gone and I run it at 50% load for Boinc most of the time and it's fine, although it's the main heat source. Unless it's too hot to touch, you could probably just keep using it.

I am conducting some polls regarding your opinion of large technology companies. I would appreciate your response.

Microsoft Apple Valve Google Facebook Oculus HTC AMD Intel Nvidia

I'm using this data to judge this site's biases so people can post in a more objective way.

@acdcman200 as i told you yesterday, RM 650-750 have bad caps, nothing do with the the hybrid mode while RM 850-1000 series which have the same Hybrid feature have been just fine with no user problems as they don't use the same caps as the 650-750 ones, but people are too lazy to differentiate between them and just call it as RM series, RM series is just fine, well atlest half of it.

All of them are the same platform now. Previously the 650 and 750 were Chicony, but a while ago Corsair switched to CWT for all of the RMs.
