Samsung EVO 840 vs 850

Go to solution Solved by WereCat,

Get 850 EVO the 840 has problems with flash. Also if 850 is cheaper then dont even think about geting 840.. there is no reason to consider it at all.

I want to get the 500GB SSD, but I'm wondering why is the older 840 EVO more expensive (on Amazon) than the newer 850 EVO,

which one should I get for my ThinkPad W520?

OK, should I run firmware update once I get the 850?

The 840 Evo is probably more expensive because it's being phased out. The 850 Evo is better in basically every way.

Firmware update is only really necessary if they find and fix a bug. There haven't been any firmware updates for the 850 Evo yet, at least Samsung doesn't list any.

The older 840 has issue with it and thus the increase of the price as they need to make the most profit out of those remaining defective product. Get the 850. It's newer and better (in a way).
