I would like to use the hdmi output on my xbox on my monitor. My problem is that I dont have any hdmi inputs on either of my monitors. Is there any way I could set up the hdmi out on my xbox to come out vga or dvi without an adapter, possible use my gpu as a converter?

No way to use your GPU as converter as it doesn't have input.

What @d3sl91 suggested should work, but I can't guarantee the sound will work. As in it might or might not travel through the cable and your monitor might or might not pick it up.

I suppose you can connect your speakers or headset to it directly? I have never used an Xbox 360.

Keep in mind this won't have audio, so you'll need a headset, or some external speakers

Good point.

I have used one of these with good success. RCA>3.5mm into a line input on your computer, you can use your existing computer speakers :)

You can use this + HDMI out at the same time.

HDMI carries sound, DVI doesn't. So nope, no sound :P

For sound, you'll need one of these if you don't already have one. So yeah, pretty much impossible without adapters unless you don't want sound

EDIT: @d3sl91 we linked the same item, except yours is cheaper haha

DVI can do sound, it's just not common.

Quote from Wikipedia:

A DVI-D source can output HDMI signals including audio

There is also some YouTuber who mostly does Xbox, but also some PS3. Not sure if you know it, but PS3 has DHCP, meaning you can't record PS3 footage directly via the HDMI (like with an Elgato).

He uses HDMI -> DVI into a box and HDMI -> capture card (IIRC) and DVI in fact does carry sound.
