Headphone Recommendation

KirbyTech
Go to solution Solved by jbgoedebeste,

For flat sound, you can go for the M40x, if you want them to be closed.

The HD558 or the HD595 from Sennheiser is a good open-back option.

I have been looking to upgrade my headphones for a while, origionally looked at the  M50s then like the M50Xs then heard they were base heavy. I am looking for more of a flat sound signature to use for mixing audio and day to day use. Budget should be up to $200 but can go a bit higher if it is a significant increase in quality.

Turtle beach px3? I've had them for 4 years and they are very reliable

If you like Audio-Technica though, I strongly suggest their ART ATH-A900X. They look a little funny but they are damn good and comfortable to boot. I also use Beyerdynamic's DT770 Pro, but those need a pretty beefy tube amp to sound right.

That is a headset, not looking for something with a mic. Already have one for gaming.

Are the 900x worth going over $200 though? Is it a significant upgrade in quality?

The HD 595 is not available here but the  hd588 is, although I have read the hd 598 is just an upgraded hd588? The price difference is only $9 worth it to go up?

AKG K612

Way over budget, like $85 over. Can't see myself spending that much on headphones anytime soon.

Oh you're in Canada...Get Shure 440 with 840 pads.

Amazon does not carry them either, neither does NCIX or Newegg. We're limited here in out selection sadly.

The A900X are only $170, $135 if you import a set from Japan, and are notably superior to the M50s to me (I use both). If you are looking into open-style cans, AKG and Sennheiser have great offerings for about $200 as well.

Oh wow, these stores are selling at an outrageous price in Canada! The headphones are technically discontinued, but US sellers sell them for about $170. Japan imports them to US as well for ~$140. Can you shop US Amazon? If not, then you may be out of luck. Sorry!

I can shop US amazon for some items, some don't ship and those that do I have to pay customs and the exchange rate is horrid right now

The Japanese import dealer ships to Canada if you want to try to purchase from their page. I linked it in the last post (in case you didn't see). The other, US store ships from New Jersey, so they might be able to ship to you as well, but that's less likely.

In Canada it is rarely worth importing anything due to the high customs.
