Corsair Fans AF/SP/High Static/Quiet/PWM

Go to solution Solved by Mao_Zedong,

To be clear, you are talking about lowering the voltage through something like Asus AI Suite or something like the Corsair Link? I would imagine lowering the voltage is what lowers the fan speed, correct? If so, just how much of a range can the speed of these fans be altered?

Either that or with a fan controller. You should be able to adjust it completely (0%-100%) with your motherboard. Once you get them, you will need to balance the noise and performance, different people care about them different amounts.

Considering the Corsair 900D case and their fans, and while focusing on having as much fan control as possible, am I better off with purchasing multiple SP120 PWM High Static/Performance fans for everything (and controlling their speed through the motherboard) or should I stick with using SP120 High Static in combination with AF120 when it comes to a push/pull config? I guess I'm stuck on why there are so many options for these fans.

Are the SP120 High Static fans really that noisy (compared to their "quiet" fan brother)?

Is it better to use the quiet versions of the fans (and just have more of them)?

I would think that if I can control the SP120 PWM fans, then using only those fans (especially in a push/pull) would be my best overall option. What is the purpose for so many fan options?

Also, is there any reason or benefit to having a 140mm radiator (and fan of course) for the rear exhaust? What about a 240mm radiator in the front? For this case, where are the optimal places to use radiators? Push/Pull as much as possible?

ADDED: How much can the SP120 High Static fans be lowered through the motherboard (ie. Asus X99-E WS using Asus AI Suite)?

the quiet version of fans are fairly loud, the high performance fans are EXTREMELY loud

Either run them at a lower voltage or get other fans. They look pretty good, but are loud at full voltage.

Does the volume depend upon setup (ie, push/pull versus just pull)?

What case do you have?

Most people have told me these fans are relatively quiet.

no, corsair fans in general are not quiet

push makes no difference than pull, and push+pull will obviously make more noise because you have twice as many fans

people who claim these fans are quiet are either using headphones or running them at ridiculously low rpms, such as 600-800, in which case you're not getting even close to half their listed performance

there are plenty of fans that make the same noise while having better cfm or mmH2O, or there are fans just as good which are quieter

corsair fans are pretty expensive too, close to noctua
