obs vs capture card

applesuxD
Go to solution Solved by manikyath,

so capture cards are more practical for things like playback on tv but online its not very practical right?

what most game livestreamers use a capture card for is to encode their livestream on a seperate machine, or to record for example the output of a wii xbox or playstation.

closer to this forum: the wan show: they use capture cards to record the screen output from linus's laptop, and broadcast it trough the streaming pc.

in short: a capture card is a video signal input you can use to record or broadcast video signals straight off the cable.

im not a pro in this so dont be mad xD

obs is a software.. but if used in a powerful pc,do i still need a capture card

“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

No, you use something like DXTory to still record and kind of put it in OBS.

capture cards will be better then any software imo, plus some software charges subscription fees, but with the Capture card you still need software, It just makes it much faster

what a capture card does is capture on a hardware level, rather than on a software level.

its pretty much the decent version of pointing a camera at the screen.

you'll still need OBS, but it'll be less system load (could be wrong here) and grants the possibility of capturing on a seconary system, rather than on the system you're doing stuff on.

EDIT: you'll still need OBS, or any other capturing software
