Which adapter will work from a VGA to my graphics card?

Never mind I think I understand I need a DVI-D to VGA Active Adapter right?

Yes.

Hi, I was thinking about putting in dual monitors and I noticed on the back of my pc that I have two display ports. One of them I have a adapter from VGA to DVI-I. That one is my main monitor. The monitor I want to get is VGA also but I have a different display port. This one I believe is a DVI-D. Will any VGA to DVI-D adapter work?

I believe any DVI-D to VGA adapter will work.

Yeah, DVI-D means digital signal and VGA has analog signal..

@salecar3 might be right

DVI-I is the one which allows analog signalsdvi-i%20diagram.jpg

No. DVI-D is digital only.

You'd need a signal converter, but they can be pretty expensive.

Are you using onboard graphics or a GPU?

And which one?

DVI-D->VGA or DP->VGA (src: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort;personal experience with a DP to VGA passive adapter) passive adapters

or

DP->VGA; HDMI->VGA; DVI->VGA active adapters

I was confused for a sec too, but there is a difference between displayport and display port..

The space signifies the difference

We kind of need to know what GPU or mobo OP has

You could try to get your hand on a displayport to VGA adapter.

Or you could see if you can turn on you integrated graphics, while still having a GPU in your system.

HDMI - Digital

DVI A - Analog

DVI D - Digital

DVI I - Both Digital and Analog

Display Port - Digital

VGA - Analog.

You have to have an active adapter which tends to cost quite a bit to convert from digital to analog or vise versa, whereas if converting digital to digital or analog to analog there are cables that will do the job, I myself use a DVI-D to HDMI cable for my monitor.
