GPU Backplates

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

So I'm kinda stuck between the MSI gtx 970 and the asus strix gtx 970 I really wanna go with the MSI but the only thing stopping me is the PCB. I LOVE the backplate on the strix so I was wondering if it is possible to buy backplates or would it be possible to make one? I do have access to a plasma cutter and a metal workshop where I can make things like that but I would much prefer to just buy one then have to make one.

You can get specific backplates for watercooling setups as long as the screws and mounting points line up with the cooler's mounting points and the right length of screws to accommodate the extra thickness it should work out no problem, and similar for custom backplates if you want to make a fully custom one you'll need to match the mounting points and have longer screws. You may also need to possibly need to make some isolating washers out of nylon to prevent the custom backplate from touching the solder points on the PCB.

IF you cant find a premade plate for your card, and if you are careful and pretty handy you can make your own one:

I am tempted to try it myself at some point soon, but knowing me, it will be the end of my card!!!!!
