Which Noctua for a h100i?

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

NF-F12's would be best for their static pressure. NF-P12's are an all-around case fan that works decently for heatsinks with fins stacked farther apart.

Push/pull isn't worth it for such a thin rad. It looks like push/pull would work in the s340 though.

A full tower can fit more. Smaller cases tend to have better airflow with less fans due to shortened distances between cool air getting in and heat getting out.

Pretty simple question, thanks folks.

I've had a look myself but I'm not sure. I already own a NF-P12 for my little Seidon 120V but some retailers are calling it a case fan, so I'm unsure whether to get another.

Also, is buying two extra for push/pull worth it? If so, can the NZXT Source 340 fit them?

And while we are here, what are the reasons to get a full case instead of a MIDI? I guess room for proper cooling solutions?

Thanks.

NF-P12's will work great.

Dont bother with push/pull on a rad that thin.

Full size cases have more room for activities ;) usually more radiator support and some more cable management room. I personally like smaller builds, but that is just me.

Okay guys thanks for your wisdom, it's great to get more than a one word answer :)

I forgot to ask in the original post, advice for thermal paste? Can I also use standard thermal paste under the heat spreader if I delid my CPU?

I use arctic MX-4 on my CPU, but there are several good options. As for thermal paste for a de-lid, there is special stuff but I am not well educated enough on it to offer advice. I'm sure some of the de-lidders will be around shortly to offer a more informed opinion on that.

I would avoid the H100i. It has a bad problem with mounting and is not guaranteed to work for everyone out of the box without modifications.  Pair that with pump noise and software problems, and you get an AIO with a high return rate.

The Cooler Master Seidon 240M, Corsair H105, NZXT X41, X61, Swiftech H220X, H240X, Thermaltake Water 3.0 are all excellent alternatives. Just check to make sure it will fit in your case.

I appreciate the advice, but when I've gone through other coolers to narrow it down to the H100i, and you go ahead and basically say "use anything but that", I'm kinda back to square one.

Edit: Going for the H105, its cheaper than the H100i on Scan.co.uk anyway :)

Make sure that it will fit inside your case.  It is a much thicker radiator, so please make sure it will fit.  This is an excellent CPU cooler though.  If the H105 will not fit, consider waiting for the Cooler Master Nepton 240M, this is a brand new AIO from CM and it is amazing.  Check out all the benchmarks and reviews for it, and it blows everything else out of the water.  It is the same size as the H100i and the Seidon 240M, but with updated technology and some super sexy new silence and pressure optimized fans.

And how do I find out if it fits? the rad + fan is about 2.5 inches thick I found, but I have no idea how much radiator clearance there is in the S340.

Taking a further look, it would seem that even though I would like to top mount it, due to the design of the S340, it would fit any size radiator on the front of the case due to the location of the hard drive bays (at the bottom of the case).

According to PcP, the H105 is not compatible with the S340 =/

It is 38mm radiator, + 25mm fans so that is pretty thick.

If you aren't in a rush, I would recommend waiting for the brand new Cooler Master Nepton 240M.  All of the reviews are glowing, check it out.  Should be available any day now.

Nope, just an avid fan.  I've owned the Hyper 212 EVO, which I loved and reused in a 2ndary build.  Then I upgraded to the Cooler Master Seidon 240M, which I got on sale for only $56.  $56 for a 240mm AIO is crazy...  You probably won't find the same deals in the UK unfortunately.  Lastly, the fans I use are the Cooler Master Blade Masters, which have a super high static pressure rating of 3.9mm/H20, so I can have my fans at a very low 1250rpm and get amazing performance.  Finally, after looking at all of the reviews of the new Nepton 240M, this AIO is the size of the H100i and Seidon 240M, but is outperforming larger AIOs like the H105 and X61, all while being insanely quiet.

There was a tech talk today with Linus and Cooler Master, they were promoting this new product.  They even gave one or two away.  Reviewers have all been given samples already, so I would assume it will be available any day now.

Do you think the fans included are so good they will render the Noctuas redundant? And do you know the price?

The preapplied thermal paste on the h100i is fine. If you're planning to delid your cpu, make sure you use non conductive paste. I personally use NT-H1 for my delidded 3570k.

I doubt they'd be anywhere as quiet as Noctuas. No clue on pricing.

OK I have done more research, and the H110 seems to be pretty much my best option based on these results:

With everyone's help I have chosen:

Case: S340

Cooler: Corsair H110

Fans: 2x Noctua NF-A14 PWM 140mm

Paste: Noctua NT-H1

I'm fairly sure/hopeful this is settled now, thank you!
