Setting up drive sharing on windows vpn

Tickletehpickle
Go to solution Solved by Altecice,

As above if you are using the same subnet for your VPN as your Home network (depending on the IP limits you have on your NAS/Networked drives) it should automatically work

as said below allow port 445 through for SMB or you won't get access to your networked drives.

I've been figuring out how to make a vpn server off my server laptop. I managed to do it, but for some reason, I can't share my network drives over vpn. Do you guys know how to set it up?

What the hey....

IF your VPN is working correctly it should share just like on a normal home network. (To my knowledge)

What VPN software are you using?

What kind of VPN server are you using ?

if you're using Routing and Remote Access Service, I would check

1. permissions

2. open ports for blocked smb/cifs

Sometimes, in a workgroup, shared folders aren't refreshed, I suggest you try to type the IP directly like \\IP\shared_folder_name

PC1 = i7 4790k  -  Asus Z97 Mark1  -  Corsair Dominator 32GB kit  -  Evga GTX 780Ti SC x2 SLI  -  SSD 512GB x2  -  12TB NAS  -  Carbide Air540  -  24" 120Hz x2 3D ready  -  Corsair K95 + M95
Custom Watercooling loop with low profile radiators / fans

PC2 = i7 4770k  -  Z97 Maximus VII Hero  -  16 GB kit  -  Evga GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0  -  Graphite 760T  -  24" VE248 x2  -  Corsair K70RGB + M90

I'm using the built in windows vpn feature and I'm pretty sure I have my ports open
