Any thoughts on this build I'm working on?

Go to solution Solved by Yawier,

Don't you think he should ditch that motherboard though?  No real reviewers rating that board and when you can get a 990FX board for cheap why bother with what the OP selected?

Well it seems that the computer is going for a blue theme so the board that he chose matches with the GPU and ram. Of course there are cheaper options that would do exactly the same task, its only a mother board.

But in the end we can recommend to change things but its not our computer and not our money that we are spending. What matters is that Triion is happy with his purchase and gets what they want out of it :)

Any opinions on this build I have in mind? My budget was $1050 (after taxes)

In regards to the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler that is a high price to pay for that as I have seen it for $9 less.  As for that motherboard I am not seeing any real reviews for it and thus despite it being made by Asus I wouldn't go with it.

The B2 version of this is what you want.  What you have picked out is crap.  I and some other guy chimed recently this week about this psu you picked when trying to help someone with a build.

O really.... I assumed it was good since it has generally positive reviews online.

Well I saw some recent horrid reviews for it and it was said the B2 versions of EVGA psus were solid but then I found that a very reputable site gave the psu a great score.  Here is the review ...

Hard to argue with jonnyguru.com.

I am beginning to think I was completely brain dead the other day.  The cooler I ok'ed wasn't bad for $21 but at normal operating temps with an overclock it ran much higher than the HSF you are looking at.  Also with the psu all I am finding is good reviews. Maybe I am confusing it with another psu.

Yeah it really is.

Oh btw the psu I was recommending was the B2 version and it does rate better than the psu you are looking at.  It was better by 0.5 at johnnyguru.com and it didn't cost much more than the one you are looking at.  I recommended the B2 version over a SeaSonic 550 watt Gold psu that some guy was looking at for $100+.

Here is a link to the psu I recommended and it is $82.99 CAN for a newer version of what you are looking at.

In regards to a motherboard I'd definitely recommend going with a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 or a newer version.  Great overclocking boards for AMD FX chips.  I have my son's AMD FX 6300 at 4.5 GHz with some voltage increase but not maxed out yet. This is on air.  I think many will agree the 990FX boards are fully featured boards that overclock well and can be had at cheap prices.

Btw if this is a gaming rig and you like to store all your games on your pc and you are a hoarder of games and buy loads of them during Steam sales and everywhere else then get a 3 TB Seagate drive for $109 or so instead of the SSD and the 1 TB drive. People are now likely to chime in and say there are benefits to gamers when you add in an SSD and really they are just blowing hot air.  Loading CG movies faster isn't that big a deal.  Still it is all up to you and enjoy whatever you put together.
