Help: PC shuts down and turns back on by itself

Jijix05
Go to solution Solved by Jijix05,

UPDATE:

I just had enough of it, i went to the store and bought a new PSU. I bought Sharkoon WPM V2 Modular ATX 2,3 Power supply. 700W

I know its a cheap shitty one (excuse my language) but its all the money i had at me.

The PC just wouldnt start at all.

I will get a new GOLD psu in the future.

Hello everyone. I got a big problem and i can't figure out what it is.

PC specs:

CPU: i7 3770 LGA 1155 (not overclocked)
Graphic card: Sapphire Radeon R9 280x Dual-X
Rams: 2x Kingston 4GB (module name: Kingston ACR512X64D3U13C9G)
Mobo: Acer Aspire M3985
PSU: Thermaltake Berlin 630w 80plus
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1000DM003
SDD: Samsung EVO 840 250GB

Case: NZXT H440

So, alot of times when i press the power button to turn on my pc, it stars and after about 5 seconds it shuts down all by itself, than my power button is useless and the pc turns itself back on alone, than after a bit shuts down again. I dont get to the part where windows boots. Sometimes it turns on completly, sometimes not.

I have tryed the following:

DIsconnecting the SSD and turning it on on the HDD, same problem
Disconnecting the HDD and turning it on the SSD, same problem
Removing 1 of the rams, same problem (switching to another ram, same)
Removing the GPU, same problem.

I than tryed with another gpu: Radeon HD 7440, it worked. (the hd 7440 doesnt have the extra power input from the psu, thats why i think it might be the psu)

Or it might be the Mobo. I will upload a video to show you guys how it happends, and put the link in here.

You say the power button is useless. Try unplugging the power switch from the motherboard header and short it with a screwdriver to see if the problem persists.

did you try to clear the bios?

on most motherboard there are pins that you can short with a screw driver otherwise you can try it out of the bios

I already tryed that, doesn't work.

What do you mean it didn't work? Did it power up or not?

I don't understand. What do you mean by clearing the bios? If you are saying if i tryed going into the bios, i can't. the pc will just shut down untill i get to go there, powering itself on later.

Remove the CMOS battery, wait a few minutes and put it back in

Hello guys, again. So i tryed removing the CMOS batery, than putting it back in, it worked for a while, now did this again. I managed to capture it on video.

Here is the video:

I removed again the CMOS batery, put it back in, computer started, but after like 5 minutes it turned itself off. Now i'm posting this on the second run. Any ideas?

Have you tried unplugging the PSU from the wall, and letting it fully drain? I have had this happen in the past, and this has worked for me. Unplug the PSU, leave the power switch in the on position (The power switch on the PSU), and then try turning your computer on several times over the course of a minute or two. Leave the PSU unplugged for at least ten minutes. Turn the power switch on the PSU to the off position. Plug the PSU back into the mains power. Turn the power switch to the on position. Attempt to power on your system.

Let me know if that helps at all, or if anything different happens.

It also would not hurt to remove the CMOS battery while the PSU is powered off, and use the clear CMOS jumper as well. I had this very issue with a P8Z77-V Pro, a 3770K, and two GTX 670 FTW's. It happened twice, and doing these three things is the only way I could resolve it...

Thank you, i will try this the next time it happends. The problem is it is not happening all the time, only from time to time and removing the CMOS battery helps, but after a while it happends again. Now computer starts shutting itself down while i am in a game.

Sounds to me like something is heating up and then shorting out. You said that you tried switching out the GPU and that it worked with a card that doesn't require extra power. Have you tried a different GPU that requires power like yours?

Thanks God for the internal speaker . It beeps once which means there is a memory refresh timer error , you can try changing the ram around if that helps . If you can start the pc up do a memtest but most likely it needs to be replaced :

I don't have another GPU to test that out. Only one that doesn't require extra power.

My Mobo says 1 short beep = System is ready, system is ok.

Looks like the fans are spinning on the GPU in any case. Idk, might be worth taking it apart and putting it back together. Sometimes a wire is loose :\

All those problems started when i moved the whole computer in this case. Before it didn't give me these troubles. Also at the same time i installed the SSD. I am going to try removing all the parts from the case and reinstalling them, let you know how it went.

Well , obviously it's not ok ..

This is weird , for AMIBIOS 1 short beep should mean ram problem , why is it different on this one ..

Anyway , you should give memtest a go anyway , also check the connectors from case to the motherboard so that every wire is connected and is connected in the right position  .

That was the first thing I thought of before noticing the beep . Overloaded ? Less likely , he used it before with the same parts , why now ? Faulty ? Now we're getting at it ..

I you could have a spare psu / borrow one and try it it would be perfect .

well i tryed with a separate PSU but without the graphic card (cause the other psu is a random grey metal box which says on it 80plus bronze, 300watts) and voilla it worked, i do not have any ideas about this one, next time this happends i will try powering the system on without the GPU, ill use the sapre i have "radeon hd 7440" which is a cheap desktop card without any extra power in requirements. if PC starts smoothly, it will mean the PSU is the problem for sure.

What i tryed regarding PSU was new PSU (300w bronze one) with a desktop graphics card and everything went smooth. Idk now if the Mobo would be the problem or the PSU, or the GPU.

Yup, after 1 day of testing, i can finaly say for sure it was the PSU. Never buy Thermaltake Berlin 630W :) My whole computer needs a total load of 350watts on benchmarks, yet still the thermaltake was not good enough, it lasted me about 1 month and started failing :)
