Should I run 2 Samsung 840 EVO drives in RAID 0?

Go to solution Solved by Peter Vaughan Truslow,

Yeah well that's what I am worried about, I know RAID 0 isn't very stable for HDD's just wondering if the same is true for SSD's?

RAID 0 doubles the chance of a drive failure, but that is tiny considering how reliable a decent SSD is. AFAIK RAID will not cause a BSOD, and a single BSOD once in a blue moon isn't too much of a worry and was probably due to a driver failure etc.

So for about 6 months now I have been running two 120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD drives in RAID 0. I have just been using my motherboards on board RAID capability's to do this (no aftermarket RAID card). Performance wise its great and I run my OS and most of my applications and a few of my favorite games of the RAID. Recently however is had a BSOD and I am now questioning weather this is the best way to use these drives.

Use the drives however you want. If you want the performance, do it. Just know that if one drive ever fails...

I should be studying.

Because the EVO relies on a few software tricks, it might not be as fast because software can't be used properly in RAID?

INTEL i5 4670 (non-K) | MSI H81I | XFX Black Edition R9 280 | SAMSUNG 840 EVO 120GB

Seasonic M12II EVO 620W | SEAGATE Barracuda 2TB

CRUCIAL Ballistix Sport 8GB | CM Elite 130

Correct. Their not optimized for raid. a M550 would be a better choice around the same price.
