Corsair RM 850 Getting HOT!

Go to solution Solved by Skander1345,

I did lots of research on this today because I'm getting an RM PSU

Apparently it will NOT activate the fan if there is not enough load UNTIL it gets too hot, then it will run the fan to cool itself and prevent any issues.

TL;DR the PSU is fine and will manage it's temperature by itself don't worry about it!

Hi guys, I'm here with a quick question that is worryin me slightly.

After about 30 mins of gaming, my Corsair RM 850 PSU gets hot hot hot.

If I touch it, and keep my hand on it for 10 seconds, I feel pain. It's not crazily hot, but I'd say 80-85.

I know this thing has a silent RPM fan mode so fans won't spin until 40% load, but I have aa GTX 780Ti, that should trigger off the fan.

Would you say it is worth checking out?

I will definately check the fans, but I'm sure the thing would start to burn if the fans didn't work.

Thanks alot!

BTW. When I stop gaming, it cools down significantly.

A 780ti can draw a max of 275W, you are not using half the power.

The PSU while passive will spill out hot air to the casing and your case, it doesn't really matter if its very hot when you touch it, the temperature of the internals is what matters, and they have heatsinks for that.

If it was 80 ºC at touch you'd fry your fingers... just sayin' (70 ºC is enough to cook meat)

Hah thanks for a funny answer (at least I found it funny)

Ok, let's say about 70C then!

I'll add. I have the 650W, and yes, it's hot to the touch when my systems under load. I don't think it's an issue.
