R9 290x or GTX 780 Ti

Go to solution Solved by nishank93,

Between 780Ti and 290X, get a 780Ti (unless you're playing at 4K).

That aside, for those games you really don't need either of those cards. Get a 290 (non-X) and that'll give you the best price-to-performance at the high end of any card.

Which should I get for my rig? I would play Battlefield 4, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Portal 2. (Is that even necessary?) I seriously cannot decide whether to go with performance or price. You help me decide, pleez*?

*No, my spelling is NOT horrible, it means "please".

Gaming rig:

i5-4670k, H100i, MSI Z97 SLI, Vengeance DDR3-1600 2*4GB, 840 EVO 250GB, Barracuda 1TB, GTX 780 Ti, 450D, CX750, VG248QE

Workstation:

Xeon E3-1231 v3, NH-U14S, Asus Z97-PRO, Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 2*8GB, 840 EVO 250GB, 2*WD Red 2TB (RAID 0), GTX 780 Ti, Define R4, AX760, VS229H-P

I had to answer the same question a few months ago and i went performance.. Most people would say save your money etc but you wouldnt be considering buying one of these cards if you didn't have money to spend.. I got the 780 ti and couldn't be happier..

For BF4? R9 290 (the non x gives way better $/performance)

290X. Better for the future (4K), and it's more consistent (i.e. tighter FPS range).

I'd personally recommend the r9 290x (assuming the prices have calmed down for it where you live), it's overall less powerful at resolutions below 4k (?) but it has a much smaller price tag. Just whatever you do, don't go reference cooler on it xD..

I would get the 290/x for mantle as you play BF4, you will get a boost and be thankful for it, the other games aren't that demanding (MW3 I can make with a 6850 at 1080p) so i think that would be your best option.

Haha if you are tight about power he should get a 750ti with a pentium running off 250w psu LOL

I totally agree, I don't care that my cpu can draw up to 220w.

Some of you might ask, why are you asking this if you already have a GTX 780 Ti (I do). Reason being, some of my friends recommend switching to the R9 290X for Battlefield 4, my main game. They claim it has better stock performance than the 780 Ti in that game. I am not certain.

If you've already got a 780 Ti do you really need another GPU? If so then your best bet would be to SLI it with another one.

No, I was joking  I just was mocking those people I see outside, saying R9s have too much power consumption, which is pure bs, was just making fun of em :D

780 Ti if you want more performance at lower resolution, 290x if you're playing at high res and need the vram.
