#4530891 Platform Launch and MASSIVE GIVEAWAY

Posted by slifer on 23 March 2015 - 11:11 PM

WAIT HOLD UP. WE DONT WANT LINUS'S PERSONAL PC. The case has a lot of meaning to him guys. It was a gift from his wife. I believe it was the first gift from her too.

EDIT: Thanks for all the likes guys! Hopefully Linus or someone from LMG will read this and this will make Linus keep his build. Even if the goal of 100k is made we should convince Linus to do another build maybe, with signatures from the whole LMG family and maybe even his wife. This would let Linus keep the build he has with the special case his wife gave him. Besides, his personal PC would be more special to him than us.

#2319979 LG G3 Review and.... TWENTY-FIVE Phone Giveaway?!

Posted by LinusTech on 01 July 2014 - 08:56 PM

NCIX: n/a
Amazon: http://georiot.co/30oN
The G3 from LG is the first phone I've used with a 2560x1440 display. That's a lotta pixels! Not to mention the rest of the top-of-the-range specs!

Alright, now onto the good stuff. LG is giving us TWENTY FIVE G3's to give away! All you need to do to qualify is post your favourite thing about the G3 from the review above in this thread and you can be selected at random to win one of these phones!
Please note that they are retail units (in the video I said pre-production, but this has since been changed) and they are Korean unlocked global units, so you will need to verify if they will work correctly on your carrier! To my knowledge they will work on AT&T or T-Mobile, but I got no data - only get voice and SMS on my carrier (Bell) so YMMV.
Either way you can still enter to win one, and you an always use it as a portable gaming device or whatever... I mean, it's a G3 man! The wifi will work! Best of luck to everyone!
One entry per household.
The giveaway is worldwide and closes July 6th and the winners will be announced on Twitter, so make sure you're following @LinusTech!

The winners who have been struck through did not respond in the allotted time period, so seven phones have been redrawn.

The new winners of those seven phones are:
Echodamus    sillikony
michaeldeve    HaydenMadeEm
TechUpdate    lukepwnsall    fahzan007
Please respond to the message from nicklmg to claim your prize

Posted by rainbrodash666 on 16 January 2013 - 01:47 PM

so this one time I was hanging out with my friend who is the manager at a tech shop by where I live and a girl comes in and buys a 2tb hard drive. we let her know that we install hard drives for $1 (the cost of the sata cable we use) and she says "just because I am a woman does not mean I cant work on computers" and leaves in a huff. two days later she comes back in saying that the HDD is not working so we take the computer in to look at it, we open it and the HDD is nowhere to be seen, so we ask her where it is. and it turns out that she scanned it and put the scanned image on her desktop to install the drive. and to top that off she threw away the drive she paid almost $200 for and she wanted us to give her a new one.

EDIT: feel free to quote this comment, I like seeing peoples reactions even though the comment is 2+ years old.

Posted by LinusTech on 28 May 2013 - 11:12 PM

SPONSOR MESSAGE (please read)

HTC has been making massive waves with their HTC One Android smartphone, and while unfortunately we are not able to bring you any HTC Ones in this giveaway, the available options are absolutely rockin'. My wife has been using a DROID DNA for quite a while now, and with its S4 Pro processor and gorgeous 1080p screen it is a head-turner in spite of, or perhaps BECAUSE of the fact that most people don't recognize exactly what phone it is, particularly here in Canada.

TLDR: HUGE thanks to HTC for making this giveaway possible. You guys freakin' rock and the support you're showing for our brand new community is overwhelming!

 Attached File  HTC logo.jpg   16.61KB   117 downloads

Guys, this is one of the biggest giveaways we've ever done. HTC is making it all possible by providing us with not one, not two, not three, not four... Oh wait actually four.

FOUR phones to give away!! ah-ah-ah-ah-ah.....

Not only that, but you get to PICK your prize! Read on for more details.

With that said HTC is going to cover helping me ship TWO of the phone globally, while the other two will only be shipped to the USA only. We will draw four winners and in a case where more than 2 winners are outside of the USA will we re-draw.

Now for the really cool part. You actually get to PICK the phone you want from the list of available phones! With that said, the phones available in the different regions vary a little bit.

Prizes: 4 HTC smartphones with a "pick your prize" approach!

USA winners can pick between the following:

HTC One X+

International winners can pick between the following:

HTC One X+

Thanks so much for joining. My vision is a community based on positive member interaction and helping each other. I believe that if we all work together toward this goal, we will have success in the long run. We don't have official forum rules or anything like that yet, but as long as everyone is respectful of each other, and patient with the growing pains that we are going to experience (vBulletin 5 is VERY beta right now) we can make this into an AWESOME community forum. #866796 The easy option for a computer desk.

Posted by ttam on 07 October 2013 - 12:50 PM

It appears that Ikea now ships items for a really decent price.

One desk & legs would cost me only $15 and 2 sets would be $16!

I often see people asking what desk they should get and one desk comes to my mind.
I have been using the Ikea desks for years now and they work extremely well.

So I figured I would give a little more thought to the topic and potentially others with it.

The great thing about the Ikea desks is that they come in different shapes and colors.
Right now I have one holding THREE(3) 27" Monitors.
So they are a pretty decent size.

The Larger Table-Top; 35.99 USD / 26.52 Euro
This is my preferred table top for desks. The great thing is it comes in a few colors.

For the legs, you have multiple options.
3.50 USD / 2.58 EUR to 10 USD / 7.37 EUR
Adjustable: 15 USD / 11.05 EUR to 30 USD / 22.11 EUR
Table: 45 USD / 33.16 EUR to 79.99 USD / 58.95 EUR

Non-Adjustable Legs:

Adjustable Legs:

Tables (Alternative to legs)

Being able to choose the looks of the desk help it make it yours.
My personal desks feature the chrome adjustable legs (expensive)
And one of the tables to help with some storage.
The desks are extremely stable and strong. Great build quality as well.

The joy of these desks is that they are extremely easy to assemble.

The desks come with pre-drilled holes which makes it a breeze.
All you have to do is take the screws & wrench that come with the legs,
Line up the holes and screw it together in about 10 minutes.

Obviously these are Ikea desks and can be found online or at Ikea.

Table Tops Online:

Legs & Table Alternatives Online:

These are great desks that can range from 49.99 USD / 36.28 EUR
For the low end of the desks.

Stepping up to the better & adjustable legs the desks start at 95.99 USD / 70.75 EUR
This offers you a little bit more customization for the desk.

They do offers pre-built desks and many other desk top shapes for you to choose.
These have been my go to desks for a while now and I have 3 myself.

They now offer a Stainless Steel table top for 99 USD / 72 EUR
I might have to pick this up myself for a cool new table.
